snowplow installation
#1
Anyone have experience installing a snowplow on a rubicon? How difficult is it? I'm leaning toward a moose plow (using the winch to raise/lower it) - but i'd really like to install it myself instead of paying the dealer (they quoted me 3+ hours to install it!).
also - how important are chains? the average snow fall in our area is close to 130 inches each season.
thanks!

I have a warn plow. However it is on a polaris. Eventhough the directions sucked it only took like an hour and a half to install it. But as for the plow I havent used it in the snow yet but as for loose dirt and gravel it does great. I have a friend who has a friend who has a moose plow and says the warn is built much better. Check them out. I would say chains would be a real plus cause my machine will spin alot when there is to much in front of the plow. Not really an answer just an opinion.

thanks for the info - i'm going to look at the warn plow today. it's good to know that the installation is not rocket science .. i have a hard believing me that the dealer takes 3+ hours to install it.
thanks again.
thanks again.

Hopefully I can help out here...I think the Moose plow I put on my Arctic Cat 500i auto is awesome! It is very well built, but I didnt have a Warn plow to compare it to. I'm sure the Warn is a decent piece of equipment, but the Moose is extra heavy-duty. I got my plow 'in the box' and installed it myself, in about 1 hour. Pretty straight forward, I'm sure just about anyone that can do preventive maintenance on a quad can handle it...I love plowing snow with this thing! My machine has plenty of power and will move any snow you can put in front of it! I use my Warn 2500-LB winch to raise & lower the blade, and it works well. There's a lot of adjustability in the Moose plow; I'll probably re-set mine this fall since I put new tires on my 500i this spring. My setup includes 3 components: the 'frame attaching plate', which bolts onto the bottom of the frame; the 'pushtube assembly', which connects the plow to the frame plate; and the blade itself. Hopefully this helps, post for any further questions. :-)

I had a honda 300 4x4 with a CMP plow, never needed chains to push snow, but if the going gets tough I'd go with the sand bags on the racks routine. (sand-in a tube out of the back of my truck). The real key I found out, when plowing with a quad...pick up a little speed, and keep it up.
At any rate, it beats shoveling and is one more justification to the wife for owning a quad:-)

Check out cycle country plows I have one for my soportsman 500 Ho,Works great with my winch and works good in dirt. Mounts with two plates underneath the frame than can be removed to get more ground clearance. I had a 335 sportsman and kept the plates on thoughout the summer and bent all the u-bolts up. Called cycle country and they sent me new hardware and never even charged for it.They are great poeple in my book. I think there web site is cyclecountry.com

How much, if any, ground clearance do you generally lose with the mounting bracket for the plows? Warn boasts that there is little ground clearance lost with their quick release mount kit.

Is the Cycle Country plow well built and a good set up for plowing? I will basically be plowing my driveway and rink on the ice, so my plowing wont' be real heavy duty, but I am looking for a good set up.

I have a 60" Moose County Plow on my 1999 QuadRunner 500. It is a great plow. It is easy to assemble. I live in Western NY and get about 120-140" of snow a year. Using chains will allow you to plow a lot more; especially in ice.
