Which snow plow?
#1
I have been researching all popular snow plows, and need your help in deciding between the Cycle Country and Moose set-ups. I'm considering CC's State plow, and Moose's County plow, both in 60" lengths. Is there any major differences in build quality/features from these brands? I was priced $495 for the 60" CC State Plow with push bars, mount, and electric lift kit, shipped to my door, from Star City Motorsports. I am hesitant on paying the extra cost of the Moose set-up. I have searched through previous threads but they all fail to compare both plow setups. If anyone can recommend a dealer with better plow prices, please don't hesitate to post it
Thanks for your help

In my opinion, the Moose is the better plow for the money. Both the Cycle Country, and the Moose are good blades, but the Moose is built better. It has better bracing along the bottom edge to prevent any chance of the blade bending or buckling when striking a solid object. Back when I bought my Moose, both Cycle Country and Warn were having problems with their blades bending. Both have since beefed up their products, but I still believe the Moose is sturdier.
Cycle Country only has 3 plowing positions, where Moose has 5. This may not matter to some, but I would rather have too many choices than not enough. I have used all 5 positions on mine. Not all the time, but it's nice to have the options.
Dennis Kirk sells the Moose plows, or you can get them through any dealer that sells the Parts Unlimited line.

I don't know how the CC Plow is but from what I heard the Moose Plow is stronger and better built. I personally own a 60" standard Moose Plow for my SP 700 and it works great for plowing. The only thing I don't like about it is it is a pain in the a$$ to hook up, but once you get it hooked up it works great. As far as prices go I would look at Dennis Kirk, they offer free shipping on all orders over $100. I believe you can get a Moose set-up for the price you are going to pay for the CC set-up. What are you going to use for lifting the plow? I would recommend using your winch if you have one. I just installed a mini-rocker switch for my Warn A2500 to go along with the remote control that came with it. The mini-rocker works great for plowing because it is mounted on the handle bar right above the light switch.

picked up the moose straight blade (think it's 47"); complete kit was $348 from my local honda dealer in keene,n.h.
i was going to go with the larger county blade (angled), but the dealer talked me out of it due to weight of the blade. i have a 02 rubicon - and i was told that if i was going to put the heavier blade on it that i should seriously consider beefing up my springs, etc. (evidently this particular plow weighs alot, and can be brutal on your machine).
i'll echo the complaint about the installation - it can take some serious time if you're doing it by yourself. i'm not mechanically inclined, so it took me about 3 hrs to put it on.
however, if you have another person, it won't take nearly as long - and taking it off and on (with help) takes a few minutes.
as for using it - i strongly recommend the moose plow - it's built very well. i've used it to plow over 4 ft. of snow this season, and have not had a problem let. most of the plowing is around the barn and the driveways, so it gets plenty of use..
i use the winch to raise/lower - without any difficulties to report. one word of caution - after you use it the first time, tighten everything up ..
happy plowing!

i have the cycle country straight blade with manual lift and i have had zero problems. i have hit rocks and rr ties and my blade has not bent or even scratched yet. works great with the manual lift. imo, the manual is better and quicker than the winch operated plows. we have had several storms and the cc has not let me down yet. there is a guy on ebay selling them pretty cheap. i got mine from him, no problems with getting it shipped to me. i think they are going for around $375 or so less the mount for your particular quad.

Don't make a decision until you check out our preferred vendor, montanajacks.com They have a unique plow mounting system and plows. Their mounting system gives the winch a direct lift on the plow rather than pulling against the plow like most winch mounting systems. It means the plow raises and lowers faster with less stress. They have a large selection of plows. If you have questions, give them a call because they can tell you some things you might not have thought about when it comes to plowing.

Thanks guys. I appreciate everyone's feedback. According to everyone, the Moose set-up is the best, so I chose to go with the 60" straight blade and manual lift, all from Bob's Cycle, for a total price, with shipping (including push tubes and mount), of $421.46. Do you think that the Heavy Duty front springs are necessary for the sportsman? I wouldn't want the quad to sag so much that I wouldn't be able to climb up curbs when the plow is attached.
Thanks again guys

Polaris makes a spacer that you can place in the spring that will make it so that it don't compress all the way. The spacer is only around $15, I have a set but have not tried them out yet but will try them out the next time we get snow.
