Default Kawasaki Prairie 650 Or Yamaha Grizzly 660?

I'm seriously considering buying a 4X4 quad for trail riding since I only ride my DS650 on the sand. What do you guys think? I know the Prairie is less expensive, but Yamaha has some very attractive financing available right now. And what should I be paying for each out the door? Thanks!

Dealer financing is always flaky (higher rates if missed payments, etc). I would steer clear of dealer financing if possible.

As far as the choice between the two quads goes, both are good machines. The Griz is a little more forgiving through rough terrain due to its IRS, but both will go. I personally feel that Yamaha cut too many corners on their flagship quad. It's been plagued with quality control problems since it was released.

The biggest problem I've experienced with my P-650 is its continuous need for shift-linkage adjustment. I'm going on my third time now. NYRoc's site details how to fix the problem, but it's still a pain to continuously have to adjust the darn thing. Other than that, it's been a fine machine. My friends tell me that it gets stuck too much, but that's probably rider error on my part.

Don't know about the west coast, but in the mid-west I've seen ads for P-650's NEW OTD $5999.00 + TAX.
Also, I believe KAW is offering 12 MO same as cash/no payments. The P-650 should kick a$$ in the desert. You'll need REAL TIRES, though. The stock Dumflops will hurt you!

Get the griz, but the p650 is a fine quad as well i ride with 1 all the time, very quick, and sporty, but the frt struts suspension and electric fuel pump i do not like. this was a close choice for me as well, but the irs in the mud or mountains is hard to beat and park gear in the trans is great on steep hills and the top end speed on the griz is better to.

Hellfish--- I would have to disagree with your statement about the 660 Grizz having more top end, I do not believe this to be the case. I will agree that the Grizz is a better mud-machine than a P-650, straight out of the box. However, the fellow that started this discussion does not live where mud would be a factor. I am of the opinion that the KAW would better fill his needs............................

trx450~

Only speaking from my own experience, the Grizzly does have a higher top end stock. All quads are different though, and I'm sure there are plenty of stock p650's that take some 660's. Once mods start being done, though, it's anybody's game. I believe the P650 has more potential with mods, but most folks aren't willing to spend that kind of money, nor do what it takes to their stock power plant.

I love my Grizz. It is a very good trail machine. Change out the stock tires and you can not buy a better trail ride. You should be able to get a new Grizz for around 7K.

The Prairie is an awesome horsepower bike but I can tell you from experience. It's not the best bike for woods riding (tight technicle stuff). The belt wears on them fast and the low end of the gear box has been known to blow up. I know two so far that have had low end trans problems. Also from talking with a dealers shop guy "the low end gear box section of the transmission is just not set up to handle the power and they have seen several bike come in that need a new trans. If Kawasaki would fix this problem it would be a great bike. I would go witht he Grizz myself.
