Where do I hook the hook?
#1
I have a warn 3.0 winch with a handlebar mounted rocker switch. Where do you hook the hook? My fear is that if I hook it onto the bumper or anywhere else and accidentally hit the rocker the winch will pull in my bumper or whatever it's hooked to. Is there any way to add an on/off switch? Thanks.

Just add a winch ball (that mounts to cable and wont let it reel in any more) I have seen them at 4X4 shops The last place I seen one was a sporttruckworld in Florida But I know they are available good luck RY

I hook mine onto the top of the front rack, that way when the winch is buried in mud or ice cold water i dont have to dig around trying to get at the hook if its submerged. Just back off the winch.. grab the hook and throw it to someone to hook to a tree etc. If no one is around i unroll a good 20 ft then stand on the seat and jump to dry ground ( if possilbe). As far as hitting your switch by accident, I personally wouldnt be too concerned. If you do hit it by accident it will only be for a split second. Its not like you will hold the switch down and tear off your bumper LOL.., its just gonna snug up your cable a bit more :-]

I have been told to leave it in free spool mode so if you do hit the winch switch it won't do that. It also said to leave it there in the instructions for my Ramsey winch.

i have a rubber strap going from 1 side of my rule mount to the other and i put the hook there. that way if the button does get bumped it wont hurt anything, itll just stretch the strap a little tighter.

thats what most of the guys around here do...(and what i used to do) hook a bungie cord on the front of the rack going from right to left and just put the hook on the cordthen just spoolin enough so the hook won't fall off ....so he cord looks like a V
