Yellowcreek, Ohio riders.......need help!!
#1
Hey Riders!!
I need some help here. I am looking into making it legal for riders in Yellowcreek to have access to the roads in Wellsville, so y'all will be able to ride your bikes to go to the stores, eateries, and gas stations. What I need to find is someone with knowledge of any other towns who do this and maybe a sample of the town's ordinances. I will need some legal documentation to convince my fellow councilmen and police dept. that we can do this.
Any help or contacts would be greatly appreciated.

I posted once there asking the same question , but got moronic replies from the 'locals' who post, I dont think they understood the question. Good luck!

The State of Ohio allows ATV's to be ridden on the berm or State Highways .....
The Ohio Law provides for "Local law" to decide if ATV can be ridden on the "non-State" rodes.
The Township I live in allows ATV riding if the Quad has a State Regestration Sicker ( which means
it has liability insurance for being on the streets) and brake light.

You're right Vforcer..........
Ohio Law already permits the use of roads not marked, so long as the municipality does not have any ordinances against it, and riders have the proper tag. What I want to do, since our town is in fiscal emergency and needs to find other sources of revenue, is create a special permit. This would allow riders to come into town on the bikes and patron our businesses. This would generate a small revenue for Wellsville and of course, the businesses would do more business and we would also profit from that through income tax. Our town is in debt to the tune of roughly $180,000 and we are small. There is no room for big industry here and our local pottery is looking at shutting down.
I think it would be great for the riders if they can come into town on their bikes, instead of having to load up and/or driving their trucks and trailers in. One of my fellow councilmembers has even purchased the little store downtown and reopening it with the riders in mind. He is going to have a full deli, hot foods, and even a coffee corner inside. He is also going to carry some bike necessities......oil, tire patches, and what not. He is even calling it the Pit Stop Mini Mart. He is hoping to open in two weeks!!

Now all you need is for the "shady" people that think they run the riding area to cooperate. Or has that been addressed?

Well, the main "shady" person, as you so graciously refer, was murdered last year. I don't think there has been any real problems down there since he is out of the picture. My husband spent the holiday weekend riding down there without incident, so I would say things are alot better now. The only thing I would still be cautious doing is riding along or across the railroad tracks. The railroad isn't real thrilled about riders riding along the tracks or crossing them........just be careful if you do.

Hey backseater, I made it down to the pitts over Memorial Day. My cousin's in-laws live out on Dryrun Road and let me park there. I've never entered the pitts from that direction. I went right by the forebidden zone campground. It was funny there were actually people camping outside of the "Zone" grounds. As for the pitts, I haven't been down there in over 20 years. After re-acquanting myself with pipeline hill (ouch) I headed back towards yellow creek. Didn't go to far because I was alone and didn't want to get lost (next time I'm bringing a gps). The place was packed with people coming at a steady flow most of the day. If I hadn't read the posts on this board, I would have never known there was trouble down there. I had a blast and can't wait to go back. Never thought I'd hear myself saying that I can't wait to go back to Wellsville. On an off note, out of the blue I got an email from Mike Powell last week.......

Hey jflong!!
So you made your way home, that's great!! The Pits has changed over the years, that's for sure. Glad you didn't have any problems. One thing is for sure, you should have someone who knows their way around down there. That place can be pretty tricky at times. I have been riding down there several times and know I still couldn't find my way out............ha ha ha.
Mike Powell, eh? So how is he?
