Default Places to ride near Kansas City?

Going back to deepwater on saterday, just bought 2 more bikes and my son needs to learn to ride the one I bought for him. The big open area over by the lake is the perfect place for this so thats where I am headed.

my damn parts should finally come in today, i'll probably not be able to hit finger lakes saturday since i have to work friday night, off at like 6am or so. not enough time to put the thing back together, unless the parts come early friday, but than i'd still be screwd of sleep. i might head out somewhere sunday depending on how its working, haha.

It was a good time. My roommate, Mike, and I went down to his place near Columbus, got his 350X, and left for the dunes early Saturday and were in Waynoka just after noon. Once on the sand, we didn't pace ourselves well at all, and rode hell-for-leather until it started getting dark. I still haven't put in headlights, and Mike didn't have a taillight on his X, so we called it a day.
Sunday we arrived early enough that the Rangers weren't at the gate. We stayed on the sand until we pretty much had covered the whole area again, and by then were pretty well worn out. At about 1 in the afternoon we decided to call it a day and took off.

It wasn't nearly as crowded as the other times I have been there (Snake Hunt and Sand Fest), but there were still enough people to tear up the sand. The wind blew on Saturday, so that helped. The weather was as good as you can ask for in March. Jeans and T-shirts Saturday, needed sweatshirts the Sunday but it was still nice out.

We met up with some other forum guys while down there, but they had done their duning on Friday and were just drag racing Saturday, so ended up not spending much time with them. One of the guys broke his jaw on a bad landing on Friday, so they weren't real enthused about doing much but racing.

Both the DS and the 350X stayed rubber-side-down, so that was good. We did see a guy on a dirt bike bite it pretty hard, and a guy on a fancy TRX250R came as close to going over the bars as I've ever seen without eating sand. He must have had A LOT of experience on that bike, because it looked like he was in REAL trouble.

I'd like to go down there sometime when there aren't many people out, when the sand is smooth. If anybody is planning on going on an off-weekend I may be up for going again.

Hello all. Glad to hear you had a good time at the dunes and didnt tear anything up Ben. Todd and I went three weeks ago had a great time. The only thing hurt was a flat tire on the trailer on the way home. I have to agree with Ben its more fun on a off weekend. On a big weekend I saw a quad and buggy in a head on, it didnt work out to well for the the poor guy on the quad. I have been to the snake twice and sand fest once and I had a better time three weeks ago.

Hope the weather holds out for this friday trip to Finger Lakes.
