I' did this before too ,before I knew the system up there in tower city,If you arent a member and are caught ridind on their land I guess its possible to get a fine.I'm saving my money and going to join .I know they had to do it this way to get the ride area opened up again ,because people where ruining it, and riding any where they wanted, and ticking off the landowners,,,so I can see their point.,,,but their are so many people riding up there you may never get caught.

I am a member and I tell you what, being from NJ and contrasting it to NJORVP, The Tower City Trail Riders place is incredible! Well worth the money.

But it's not just that. The only reason we have permission to ride on the surrounding coal fields there is because of the waiver we sign to become members. Without that waiver, you are totally illegal on those properties.... and I would guess subject to serious fines.

Considering how few places like this there are available, I am glad to pay to be a member. And if you can't afford it, why not call up and see if you can't do some volunteer work there in exchange for membership.

By the way, you have to wear a sticker on your helmet or visor and I have run into staff members on the trails so I would suggest it's worth it to at least try to become a member. God, if I lived in Harrisburg, I'd be there every weekend!

Hey Todd

I'm another guy that trucks it 2.5 hours from Jersey to ride at Tower City.

If you joined the club, you'd have unlimited friends and people to ride with, right inside the club. Just hang around the office on your bike or quad and you'll meet all kinds of people that ride all kinds of machines with different abillities. Then kick back at thier camp sites with some beers, or root beers or whatever.

We're working on getting permits for showers now. They have great pizza and other food at the office, and some parts and supplies, too. And lots of people that are always willing to give you a helping hand.

If you did the right thing and joined the club, you'd have way more fun. Besides, I'll bet your parents didn't raise you to be a skuzzy dirtbag in life, anyway.

It isnt really a dirtbag thing.

He may have been riding in PA for free a long long time and he is local to tower city do you think he might have ridden those trails out when they were free? and now that its crowded with NJ riders maybe he doesnt feel like paying $200 to ride trails he knows.

He didnt say he was riding on the clubs trails, just that no membership was required to ride with him.

Maybe I read it wrong.

I thought the guy, who's in his 30's, lives in Harrisburg. He has a friend who lives in Tower City. He drives up and parks in his friend's driveway, and the two of them hop on their machines and make thier way to the club trails. Being able to park on someone's property is key, your truck is not parked on some road near club property where it's obvious that you're tresspassing.

"I have a friend in tower city and i park in his yard (((no membership needed)))"

Doesn't this tell you that he's advertising that he has a way to ride on club trails without paying?

If he was a local at one time ( does Harrisburg make you a local?), it was the locals that drove the land owner nuts. He lets people ride there, and they (the bad apples) treat him and his business like garbage . The man get's fed up and makes it all off limits.

So, shouldn't the locals be glad that the two guys who run the club, also long time riders at Tower City (the guys are in thier 60's), got the land open for people to ride?

Saying that the trails are crowded with NJ riders, I guess that was an insult to me and people like me. I saw your signature with the machines you have. We sound alike, I have two young sons. We have a PW80, TTR125L, Mojave, Bayou, and my fat butt is on a Prairie 650, and I'm trying to get an old Yamaha 2-stroker running for my kid to move up to. New Jersey sucks, but I'm stuck here. Instead of teaching my kids to "hit the throttle and get out of there when you see a cop," I join the club at Tower City. $200 a year for membership. Another $225 a year or something for a crummy little camp site so we can sleep there on the weekend. $40 or something to Higgins Township for a camper permit. $60 or something to another township for a another permit. To be a good neighbor, I sent $40 or something to the Higgins First Aid Squad to be a "member." My boys and I eat a couple meals each weekend at Mountaintop Diner, I buy off road stuff at WoodsRiders. I buy all my other stuff at places up there on 25. I donated blood and cash at the hardware store for the kid who needs the kidney. I'm donating now to another couple that got burned out of thier house. Every year I go around and drag garbage out of the area woods with other club members. It seems to me that I'm the local (well, sort of).

So, yea, I do think its a dirtbag thing.

And, yea, take time to make the doughnutz. Life is way short.

And the trails are not crowded. Membership is so high because everyone who sees the place gladly pays the $200 family membership to have such a nice place to ride legally. Yet many of those same people rarely come. Its still worth it.

Nope, not neccesarily to me anyway, look, I understand your point and why you ride where you do.

I am just pointing out that maybe he rides from this guys house to trails the opposite direction of your club. He may be pointing out the fact that since all locals know tower city is a pay to ride place you dont need a membership to ride with him for the day. hell, we just dont know and probably never will since his post turned into a $hitstorm with people calling him a dirtbag.

People ride everyday in PA not just in tower city's club

you're right, we won't know until Todd checks in (no lying now, Todd!)

I appoligize to Todd in advance if I'm wrong.

Maybe I just blew a fuse too quick.

It would be a hell of a coincidence though if I am wrong --- asking people to join him at Tower City Pa and *not* riding all the legal unknown number of miles of trails, lots of tough coal hill climbs, tunnels, miles of wide open throttle areas, and everything else that this property was known for , for so many years, for so many people from so many different areas, before it got shut down.

End of that subject for me.

You must fly on that Raptor! I'm amazed at what these atv's can do. At 46, I'm just hanging on to those handlebars for dear life as I try to follow the kids up and down those steep, technical rocky trails. My Prairie 650 has just about all the speed *I* need. I can't imagine how a Raptor is.

The ANF looks really nice.

I amnot saying for sure ,, but I used to park and ride from a friends house in town, and yes there is another hunting club with land adjacent to tower city trails ,,and you aren't supposed to be on it without being a member ,,and definitely not on a ATV.This is exactly why tower city got shutdown,,it got way out of hand ,as always happens to a good thing.I rode this way with a local one time and he told me the scoop about how they all ride with out paying. So I didn't go back ,,but I,'m trying to save the money andget up there legally asap!By the way the locals that actually live in tower city can get there membership at an incredible discount.I finally talked the friend that was riding illegally to to do this and he got his for under $50.00
