Ok here is the deal....

I was trying to change the oil on my KFX cause I am sure its way overdue. When I went to remove the oil filter I accidently took off the wrong deal. There are 2 metal plates with 3 screws in it. The side I took off has metal dials of some kind that work like a clock. There was also oil in there. Any idea's</end quote></div>

Post a pic of what you are talking about.

I think its the starter gear and cover. I removed it thinking it was for the oil. I need to know how to get it to fit back in right and if it needs relubed..

That's the starter gear, put it back together. Your oil filter is on the opposite side from that. The oil filter will have three bolts in a triangle that will take an 8mm wrench or socket and the cover has a little arrow pointing up(or to the rear of the quad) so you know which way to put the cover back on when you change the filter.

You are looking at the crankcase side of the quad for that, BTW. The clutch cover side is the one with your oil filter
