Default Puget Sound/Seattle/Pacific Northwest Area Riders Meet HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My cousin called me yesterday after he got home from dropping his trailer off where we go hunting. He said that he almost died, I was like why, he said that he was hunting for deer and following there footprints in the snow. He could hear the deer so he stood under a tree to see what the deer where going to do. He said I was under this tree for about 5 mins and I heard this growl. He said he looked up in this tree which was probably 25 ft away from him and there was a cougar showing him his teeth. He said his heart just started pounding. He shot at the cougar and missed. The cougar jumped out of the tree and ran he said maybe 10-15 ft further away. He said by this time he was shaking. He shot again, missed. Shoot a third time and missed. He said that he was so scared that he couldn't even focuse. He was so scared that he took off running straight up the hill. He told me where he was and the hill he ran up was pretty big, the hill that he ran up was probably like this \. He said by the time he got to the top he thought he was going to have a heart attack.

I told him that I wish he wouldn't of told me that because every morning when I walk into those woods in the dark. That is what I'm always scared of is something is following me and I can't see what direction it is coming from.

Glad to hear your cousin is ok. But a steady hand would have made for a real nice rug I have spent a lot of time in the woods and I have a drawn a bear / cougar license every year since i was 16 and I have only seen 2 legal bears while they were out of season... Seeing a cougar is very rare. I know they are out there but I can never seem to find em I would ask you where it was but I know your not going to give up your secret spot LOL

And and with most predators their instinct is to chase. The worst thing you can do is run away. Besides humans are slow it's not like your going to outrun it.

That's what I told him, I said what are you dumb. LOL He laughed.

You got that right, can't tell the secret spot.

I get a bear and cougar tag every year. I dont' care if I see one or not. I guess I just get them to protect my butt incase I do get a chance to get one. Every year we see a cougar at somebody's camp. Acouple of years ago a camp had a cougar that was 7 feet long. The teeth on this thing were HUGE, and the tail and feet were huge as well. I just don't ever want to be in that situation. I know I will someday as I'm out in the woods yearly looking for elk.

But this year I have a blind. I'm kinda excited about it. Saturday I bought alittle chair for it as well. The first couple of days I'm going to be living in that thing...during the day that is. Won't have to worry about the wind. And especially the rain and snow going down my neck as I'm standing under a tree.

WQ I think your on the right track. Been my experience that way more elk are taken from ambush than chasing after them.
