I wanna go to a different spot other then Beaumont which is where me and friends have been going since we got our Banshees a month ago.

I saw a post about Bowen Ranch..and wondering..if they seat temps like 110 degrees.

I can stand up to a 100 ..but past that...no way.

Where do all you so cal riders go during the summer...and member I have a red sticker[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]

Bowen Ranch is at lower altitude, and is going to be real hot! There are a bunch of open trails and fire roads in the San Bernardino Mtns., at higher altitude. We have done a bunch of posts on this, so I will search for some links. Meanwhile see http://bokasmo.com/pages/ohv/california/index.html The Silverwood and Arrowhead (Pinnacles) rides are good places to start.

 

Ok, do an ADVANCED SEARCH using the phrase "SO. CALIF.". Be sure to select the "WHERE TO RIDE" option for FORUM CATAGORIES. You will come up with most of my old posts (I use to be YZ Guy) on the subject of where to ride during the hot summers. See especially the thread "SUMMER RIDING IS SO. CALIF." There should be some detailed instructions in there somewhere.

Be sure to use the periods in So. Calif. (Just like FMF does!!!)

Request the 3 OHV trail maps for the San Bernardino Mtns.

Also, search "RECONRANGER" in the author section, and you will come up with some more stuff.

Forget the red sticker thing, nobody will ever check. But, remember your 2-stroke Shees will not do as well as a thumper at high altitude. And those Shees don't have any low end, so they are a challenge to ride on tight trails.

You been riding Beaumont lately???? It is close to my house, but I don't ride there anymore because the Sherrif use to run you off. Had any problems out there lately??

 

Thats the only place I have been too..since we have got our quads. We have had no problems with rangers or sheriffs. Where do you go riding at this time of year?

 

This summer we did Bishop twice (the valley is hot, but at altitude it is nice and cool), Mammoth, Kennedy Meadows, Pismo, and we do Silverwood/Pinnacles or somewhere else in the San Bernardino Mtns. on the weekends when we don't do a road trip.

I'll have to take a chance and ride Beaumont when the weather cools down.

 

I just called Lake arrowhead Pinnacles.and I guess its a woppin 5 bucks for the whole which is fine and dandy with me.

Let me ask you though..will I have the variety there..that I do with Beaumont? Like Jumps,Hills to climb, straightaways, and water?
What place do you say is more fun..and why?

The mountains are for trail/fire road riding only, plus some nice scenery. It isn't like an open area where you can rip around and do jumps, etc. Resist the temptation to leave the legal trails and roads, or we will all get banned.

The Pinnacles trails are fairly technical and rutted and only 50" wide. I have been riding them for years, and still find some sections challenging. Not at all a really Banshee friendly place! More suited for a 400EX or Z400 or Rancher. The Shee would do OK exploring the fire roads though.

 

Dang, is there anywhere eles you recommend where its not screeching hot...I wanna try somewhere different then beaumont

 

Bowen Ranch is not much higher than where I live. It was 111 today so it had to be 100 or better up there.

Even up towards Big Bear @ 7500 ft level it's still hot this time of the year.

I went on a night ride out in Johnson Valley last weekend. It was still pretty warm and riding in the dust in the dark was a new experiance to me.

We rode till about 4AM though.

 

I was in the SB Mtns today--beautiful!!

I hit Chaparral (in San Bernardino) at about 1:00 and it was 103 degrees. Got to Miller Canyon at Silverwood Lake about an hour later (hottest part of the day) and it was 94. Miller Canyon has lots of big trees and shade, so with a little breeze, 94 was comfortable. Rode up to Pinnacles, Deep Creek, then Crab Flats. I would estimate the temp at the higher altitudes to be in the mid 80's. It was great, and when you are on the bike and moving, it is comfortably cool.

So, don't stay home because of the hot weather!! It isn't that bad. We practically had the place to ourselves, because everybody stayed home!
