Default Gonna check out Hungry Valley

We were going to check out Hungry Valley on Sunday. Anything special I should know or be concerned about? How long will it take to get there from the IE? Thanks

Hey Sand, you are lookin at around 2 hours from Riverside, depending how you go, and if you are towing anything. If you go up the 5, I would recommend getting of at Smokey Bear Rd. and hitting Hungry Valley Rd (if Smokey Bear continued West, it would turn into HV Rd.) This puts you at the South end of the park.
Hungry Valley is pretty much hard packed everywhere. Excellent markings on all the trails (get a map of the place when you pay at the gate...it's well worth it, and it's free) I was there 2 weeks ago, and it looked like they got some pretty good rainfall from thunderstorms...a few trails were "washed over" with clay/dried mud. They have a full 4X4 area thats always good for entertainment when you aren't riding...some yoyo rolled his truck while tryin to impress his girlfriend. Weather is cooler than the IE by 10-15 degrees. It can get cold at night! The camping areas are how ALL should be set up with our green sticker money: Shade ramadas, picnic tables, fire rings, and bathrooms. Rangers out there are pretty cool, and only crack down on idiots. I have never been checked for a spark arrestor, and my Raptor wouldnt pass a sound check, so luckily they haven't checked that either. Have fun out there, and watch out for all the other yahoo's!!! Haz

Thanks for the info, Haz. I was concerned about the sound level of my raptor as well.

Hungry Valley is pretty good. I was there in May and it had some really whooped out trails though. And it can be VERY dusty when it's dry.

One thing to be really careful of is 2 way traffic on darn near every trail. And many of the desgnated trails are decently wide to allow passing.

I rank it Number 2 on my list of CA OHV Parks: Hollister, Hungry Valley, Pismo (I'm just not a sand junky.)
