SoCal Lake Silverwood Exit Hwy 138????
#1
This Saturday I went riding to el mirage. On the way I noticed a few trucks with bikes, and quads exiting the 138 and heading north up towards some railroad tracks and staging up near the second set of tracks. I do have the 3 maps from the Discovery center up in big bear. Is this area still open for riding with the fire damage. And if so can someone who has rode here give a brief description on this area for riding. Size, trails, difficulty, lengths of trails.Im aware these trails connect into the pinaccles area before the fires but the small map shows some trails in this general area is it any good. Thanks.

Miller Canyon is closed, and I would not expect that we will know much about when it might open until spring.
Riding in the Cajon Pass area is pretty lame! I would have to be pretty desperate to ride there. All easy fire roads. There is only 3N53 which runs east along the railroad track. Then there is 3N21 which runs north under the freeway, and hooks up with 3N24 which goes west over to Hwy 138. That is all you can ride "legally". I don't think any of this particular area burned (this year). In the past, the area has been pretty heavily patrolled by the Rangers.

Yea, riding in cajon pass is boring. If anything, check it out in a Jeep or off road truck. You can go on more of the trails legally. It does connect to other areas of the desert though, Like Hesperia, Baldy Mesa or even Phelan.

Thanks Reconranger,
Yea I thought It looked kinda weak just by viewing the map. Thanks for your input now I dont have to waste a trip up there to even just check it out. I was looking forward to riding to pinacles and crab flats from this staging area. Never rode out here just heard alot about the area and have reviewed the maps. El Mirage wasent bad at all I really liked it. My only complaint is too many people and the trails are a free for all with no direction. I like trails that are marked but I would definately go back especially after the rains. Thanks again.

The turn off is about 6 ft from the on ramp. If you exit 138 from northbound 15, go straight towards the on ramp to get back on. Just to the right you will see a dirt road that parallels the freeway. Go back about a mile, stage under the railroad tracks.
