I'm going to try and be there sometime throughout the long weekend.

Once again, the Hatfield-McCoy Recreation Area is expanding into another southern West Virginia county with great trails. The newest addition to the Hatfield-McCoy Trails will be located in Wyoming County. The Wyoming County Trail System will be named Pinnacle Creek and the Trailhead will be called Castle Rock. This system will add another 100+ miles of trail, bringing our total to over 500 miles. This "First Look" event will be held on May 26-30 and will be open to all trail riders and will be FREE of charge. All participants must sign a release to take advantage of the offer. Give us a call at 1-800-592-2217 or send us an email to find out more information about this free weekend.

Yes, the addition of the new trail head is definitely exciting! Too soon for me to go down again though, I’ll have to at least wait until sometime in June. Also, personally I’d rather not go during a special event or promo like that one, as the trails tend to get abnormally crowded then…

You could be right about the crowded part. I think however, the one cool thing about events is that it gives you a chance to visit with others interested in our sports, interested in preserving our sport. That is one good thing about HM trails, they are trying to expand their reach, give us more and more places to ride. While most places are getting shut down, they are moving forward. I've found the events a place to celebrate this victory for us. Last year at Dirt Days, Suzuki, Kawasaki, NOVACC, and many others working to better the ATV industry were on hand.

If you get down to Pinnacle Creek, stop at a little store called the Wagon Wheel. Great hamburgers If you go past the store and stay to the right, there are some really cool hillclimbs on an old mine slate dump. Pretty cool area to ride. Was down there yesterday.

It was pretty nasty this weekend. We tried a new trail coming off the mountain down into Pinnacle Creek. Really nice trail until you hit the flat land. DEEEP holes full of that "Quicksand, suck you down and keep you there" mud. About the most fun you can have with your clothes on
