Looking for Ride in and camp locations within a days drive from Minnesota..
#1
I'm looking for places that would have ATV trails and Camping locations on the trail. I dont want campgrounds, just some rustic camp sites along the ride (take everything with you on the wheeler, tent, food, ect.). I'm willing to travel up to 24 hours from Minneapolis Minnesota to do this ride. Some locations we've tossed around are: Black Hills, Montana, Colorado, Hatfield McCoy, Utah.. I do not know if you can camp/ride at these locations or not. So, any and all information and links would be greatly appreciated.

Kylersk,
My only real question is why would you want to leave this state. I know it says st. cloud under my my name, but I just moved down here from Eveleth for my new job. If you are from the cities, all you need to do is drive 3 to 4 hours north and you will me able to find a multitude of area to go and ride. There is always the Gilbert atv park, but I have not been up there as of late so I don't know how long it is open. There is also a bunch of public land to ride on and camping spots galore. My 2 hunting shacks are both 45 min to a hour north on hwy 4. Any way you look at it there is lots of area and I love it up there.

I grew up in Eveleth/Virginia/Gilbert (went to all 3 schools) but that was about 15 years ago. Went up to Gilberts ATV park earlier this summer.. had a blast! Other than a couple of area's.. I'm not sure where it's legal, and where it's not legal to ride. When I was a Kid, that didnt matter.. My ATV was my only mode of transportation. =)
Anyways.. we are really looking for a BIG trip.. Adds to the fun factor of it all.

Kylersk,
Just out of curiousity, where and when did you graduate? I am 2001 Eveleth grad myself. I also understand what you mean about where you can legally ride, but at the same time I think you would be suprised how much public land there is. I actually grew up on Ely lake and lived there for 20 years.

I'm an '88 grad from Virginia. I use to live right off of ely lake.. Cant remember the address (I was only in 1st grade).. but it was near a sand pit. The house across the road was on the lake and had a big red fence around his HUGE lot. I think he was a doctor.

Kylersk,
Just by chance I know specificly where you lived. Well one of the two houses on that side of the road. You are actually mistaken about which house was owned by the doctor. My parents bought the house from DR. Campus in 1983 and our neighbor has just short of 6 acres and a big red fence all the way around their yard. The sand pit was on your side of of the road and down a little hill. They actually turned it into a baseball field.

You guys are making me sick to my stomach thinking of that beautifull land up there. I used have a house on White Iron lake near Ely. Anyway, I would think the Black Hills of SD would fit the bill for you, lots of National Forest land to ride and tons of areas to camp, give a call to one of the chamber of commerce out there or maybe the forest service, I'm sure someone could help you out with some details of where to go.
