Welcome to the fine sport of ATV riding. There are some great places around Yakima. Go to the US Forest Service ranger station outside of Naches and pick up some maps of the national forest areas. There is Ahtanum state forest, you can get maps from the Washington Department of Natural Resources. Another popular area is the Beverly Sand Dunes.

Two good in state sources that I visit for informaiton are the Washignton ATV Assn and the NW Motorcycle Assn.

I have rode the ahtanum.Sled up there, I know just about every road up there. Nice area.Have not rode Beverly yet, been thinking about it.Probably need a good set of paddles?Dunes might be the ride for me.Thats about the only way you can ride across country.I like the mnt. riding but you have too stay on the roads. Kinda sucks, unless you want to pay a good sized ticket for being off trail. Thanks.

I would not worry about paddles at Beverly or at the Grant County ORV dunes near Moses Lake. I rode Moses Lake and the dunes are not nearly as soft as the Oregon or California (and much smaller). The sand tends to be more compact in Washington. We did just fine without paddles.

I like riding the trails more than the dunes. Those washboards can be really tough on man and machine. From Western Wash the dune trips are a weekend-long trip anyway.

if you're interested in racing, there's a GP(short loop XC) race just outside of goldendale on the 14th.... not far from you at all, & the track is sweet!!!
if you want more info, just ask!

also, check out quadsonly.com it's a local ATV dedicated site set up by a local pro racer & has event info on it for anything local... non-racers are on it too!
