Anyone living in or visiting the Poconos should know about one of the prettiest areas open to the public. Bradys Lake is located off route 940 in Tobyhanna Twp. This area according to DCNR is controlled by the Pa. game commision. The Dam at the lake is currently in pretty bad shape. It must be removed or repaired to protect people living downstream. Currently no one wants to anti up the one million dollars or so it will take to repair it. So the lake is going to be drained. This is a real shame, once it is drained hard telling when if ever it will be repaired. One sollution to this problem would be to open this area for A.T.V. use. Harrisburg is currently sitting on a huge chunk of money marked for A.T.V. trail construction. I think if someone in our local goverment had a little forsight they could see all kinds of positive reasons to do this. Elswhere in the country people have concluded that the economic impact of such trail systems are very possitive for everyone conccerned. Obviousley if you are reading this you are an A.T.V. enthusiast, and would welcome any new riding areas. The problem is we need to talk to the right people to make this happen. If you live in the area talk to other people about this area, and express a desire to see this area opened up for such use. If anyone starts giving you the same old song and dance about A.T.V.,s tearing up the land. Tell them to go to the lake and see whats currently taking place, the area is being TIMBERED OFF, this is absolutely terrible, the road leading back to the lake looks like a war zone. A thousand A.T.V.,s running around the clock for a year could not do this kind of desruction. We currently have one area localy we can ride legaly, it is called Pohopco. This area is located near Pocono Raceway and is about one of the roughest, most unscenic places you can imagine. Dont get me wrong, Im not ungratefull. But give me a break I think the state can do better than this. 13 miles of rock, and scrub oak.Bradys lake would be a place we could all use and protect. Everyone the Hunters,Fisherman,Hikers,Mt.Bikers and yes the A.T.V. Community. But we have to ask and persist, and possibly demand a little more of our public officials. We all give our ellected officials our tax dollars, it would be nice to see us get something for it. Greg A. Hamill

Try the POHVA website they will give you all the names and phone numbers to contact. I am currently working on a few leads of my own. Talk to people you ride with and people from other interest groups ie. hikers bikers etc. I would imagine you may belong to a club. If so ask your members to talk to there represenatives about this area. The folks in Harrisburg know we are out there. And they are currently looking for places to spend the money they have set aside for A.T.V. trails. If we dont ask for it we wont get it. Thank You Greg A. Hamill
