Barabara, (or anyone else who can answer the question),
I've been wanting to check out Lake Murray, but I'm trying to get a clear picture of the setup there. I have a few questions...
1) When you say you can "camp and ride at Lake Murray", does that mean you can actually camp somewhere close to the riding trails? Can you ride your ATV from your campsite to the trails and back?
2) If "Yes" to question 1) are the campsites RV type campsites with water and electricity?
3) If "No" to question 1) how far is it from the RV campsites to the trails. Does it require a second vehicle just to pull the "Dirt Toy Trailer" to the the trail head?
Again... I just want to have an idea of what to expect before going up there.
Thanks!

Yes you can camp & ride at this park. You will be able to ride the ATV to the entrance gate from your camp site. There are a few State Parks in this area but the one for atv's will allow you to ride directly to the gate from the camp site. Check out this web site for more http://www.travelok.com/atv/off-road.asp . Whne we were there last was over a year ago, but they were in the process of adding more camp sites with hook-ups. We lucked into a good spot when we went but we got there early for the weekend.
The Pear Orchard Motorcycle Use Area, on the northwest side of the lake, was developed by the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department for motorcycles and ATVs. About ten miles of marked trails cross grassland, forest and rolling hills.
Take Hwy 35 to Ardmore, OK. Exit on Hwy. 70 going East. Travel approximately 5 miles. Turn right at the road with a statue of a golden colored horse. Take the first turn to the right.
Park Permit Required

Barbara,
Thanks for all the great info. Just one last clarification.
When I look at the park map it shows the ATV/MOTORCYCLE use area on the northeast side of the lake (see Lake Murray Map), but in your description, you indicate the northwest side of the lake. Has the ATV area moved as part of the improvements they've made? Or is the map just wrong?
Hate to be a pest, but many times we head out on a Friday after work. By the time we get there we're fishing around in the dark trying to find the location. The more info I can collect in the light of day, the less fishing in the dark I'll have to do later!
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I copied & pasted the directions from the web site, I hope they are right. I do know that the horse statue will be on the left(North) side of the highway and you will have to turn to the right(South) on the road across the highway from the horse statue. You will not be turning beside the horse statue but across the highway from it. I hope this has not confused you. It really is not that hard to find. Hope you enjoy your trip. We need to go again soon. We have not gone riding in a while due to jobs, but hope to get the quads out soon. The camp sites are really nice there and kind of secluded from the person next to you, and most are shaded by trees. Don't expect to have a camp fire though, I hear there is a burn ban going on now & you can not even have small fires in the fire rings. If you are just going for the day they have a parking lot for you to park in & they have a restroom & shower there. If you have children there is a small playground area for them too.
