Default The Pits in Laurel

Any of your Laural pit riders intrested in trying to fourm a club and get with Laural Sand to see if we can make an agrement where a riding club manages and maintains the Pits in Lural. It may give us all a cool local place to ride. I would think it would similar to Tower City and Paragon. You know the typical legal stuff and some trail management and what not. like Sings, flags and the whole nine yards. I would think the club would have to be a .org and it would be the clubs responsiblity to manage who uses and how the land is used and so on. We could charge a fee per use and have anual passes. Laural Sand gets something out of the deal becasue they are donating land use to a club and we get to ride without worries of the dreaded $500.00 ticket. Legal places to park... I live in NVA but I'd be glad to pitch in some time to make this happen. I'm not going to be able to do it alone no will I since I live about 50 miles away but I'd love to see the pits become a place to ride for all. I think it may take some time but it worth the effort and then we'll have a legal place to ride in MD. Think about the # of us in the area that have no place to go legally. Place your thoughs here. I've already appraoched the Plant GM with the idea. Since I have no clue as to how to get this going I'll pass the toruch to any expert here on the fourm.

Default The Pits in Laural

At one time when I was really motovated and building MarylandATV.com into a club, I called a few times as well as wrote a letter to Laurel Sand and Gravel. I had good club membership, My ducks in a row as far as info on setting up a riding area, info on insurance talked to the State, County etc. and the Owner was not interested at all. The owner has been suied a few times because of the deaths there over the years and wants no part of ATV's, MotorCycles Jeeps etc. The land is slated for delovpment in the next 5 to 10 years. I guess they have a little more sand and garvel to get out of there? But once there ready to build the land alone is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

PS: I havent ridden there in years, But if your just willing to drive a few hours there are a BUNCH of way better places to ride. Tomahawk MX, Wva. Rausch Creek and Tower City Pa. Taskers Gap GWNational Forest Va. ETC. ETC.

MDATV,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a dead end. You'd think after the bad press they'd want to work to get the riding that goes on there controled. PM me the info about Tomahawk. Let me know when your planning your next trip. I'm trying to get a little group up to Tower sity in mid May.

The "neighbors" apparently are angry and the cops are now being called on riders every weekend at the pits. It's not safe anymore. I saw 4 cops impound a silver toyota there last weekend.
