Roy's Pit Minnasota
#2
Hey BUtcher, long time no see.
Well, Roy's pit is still a hole in the ground. Last word is that there was an interested party who was trying to get the Bauer family/Roy to sell. It sounds like there have been a few snags along the way with some of Roy's kids. I personally don't expect anything to happen in our favor with the pit.
I personally think the best thing we can do is tocontact our legislators to change the laws regarding land acqiusition by the DNR for our benefit instead of having to go through the red tape. They (the DNR) seems to have the ability to purchase land for WMA's, so why should riding areas, retired gravel pits be any different?

sorry for the confusion guys.
WMA is a Wildlife Management Area, which most are open to public hunting.
WPA is a Waterfowl Production Area, much like a WMA, but only non-toxic shot is allowed.
The DNR seems to use funds from hunting licenses at their discretion to purchase land for these uses (I may be mistaken) but they can't use the ATV funds to acquire retired gravel pits, tax forfeited land, or foreclosed land.
I think this is something that we need here in Southern MN. Changed legislation that will allow the DNR to purhcase areas like Roy's pit for the off-road groups.
