New Riding Area NY
#1
We are a small group of fellow riding enthusiasts. We would like to inform you about a private track and trail riding facility that we propose to construct and operate in the Johnsburg/Thurman area in Warren County, NY. The project involves the creation of 3 ATV tracks and 3 MX tracks for varying skill levels, an oval flat track, a drag strip, approximately thirty miles of backcountry, mountain riding trails, and a campground area on 738 acres. The project has been submitted to the Adirondack Park Agency (APA) for permit approvals and is going through the review process.
We are seeking support for this venture from ORV, ATV, Motorcycle clubs and Associations in the New York area, and residents of the State of New York to demonstrate the need and desire for a project of this type to the APA and other oversight agencies. We have been told that this is the first project of its type to be proposed to the APA. We anticipate the ongoing approval process may include a public hearing at some point in time. A show of support in the form of attendance or in writing, at a hearing, could have positive results for not only this project but the entire ORV community. We are told that this will be the first of its kind within the Adirondack Park and possibly the Northeast section of the country.
With the confiscation of the ATV Trail Fund and the loss and closure of ride-able land in this state, we see this as an important way to protect and promote our passion for the sport. We hope we can count on your support as we move forward with this project to provide legal riding alternatives to the ATV/MX community.
Please feel free to contact us via email to discuss the project, with any information or other avenues of support, or to voice your support. Please include your name and the town you reside in on any emails. We cannot use it to show your support with just a screen name or email address.
Thank you.

Thanks, we appreciate it. It doesn't matter where in NY you live. The APA Board is made up of residents throughout the state of NY. This is a State issue, and as such, everyone in the State gets a say in the matter.

Having grown up in the northern fringes of the Adirondack Park (Plattsburgh area), I will tell you that you have an uphill battle with the APA. In my opinion, they are a bunch of tree hugging extremists. They do not allow for ANY development or recreational purposes and don't even get residents started on the whole cell tower issue!!! At least 3 people have died on the Northway over the last year or two and there are NO cell towers in the Adirondack Park because "it will spoil the beauty and scenic vistas."
So, all I can say is, GOOD LUCK!!!! I honestly hope it works out for you. I will be a staunch supporter if it does.
P.S.--the new Governor of NY (Spitzer) is DEAD SET AGAINST making any new trails for ATV's (This IS on record)

Also wish you luck, lots of it. APA is ridiculous. ATV riders could have wonderful riding at end of Cedar River Flow Road, near Indian lake, but only cars, trucks, motorcycles, snomobiles, and everything to include tractors but not atvs allowed.
New York sucks for ATVs and Taxes. They take the sales tax when ATVs are purchased and you must register them at least once when first purchased and the state takes the money, but provides not one,,,,,not one legal spot to ride !!!
