So. Calif.-BLM Rangers Harassing Riders
#1
There are reports of ranger harassing riders, patricularly in the Jawbone/Dove Springs/Spangler Hills areas. People who have been minding their own business, legally camped, and legally riding, with absolutely no "probably cause" for being questions, are being approached by rangers who bait them with the question of whether they have any drugs or guns in their vehicle!
This is a damned if you do or damned if you don't question! If you say YES, they will search your vehicle, if you say NO, they will ask you if you care if they check your vehicle to see if you are lying!!! The drugs are no problem for me, but I'm not so stupid as to go camping out in some romote location unarmed. (What kind of response time do you think you would get if you called 911 from your campsite???)
State law allows you to have a loaded gun in your campsite!!! While carrying a handgun in the vehicle, it needs to be unloaded and in a locked container (a case or your trunk) or unconcealed. A long gun need only be unloaded, it does not need to be locked and it may be concealed or not. So, this is where they are attempting to trap folks, on these gun improperly stored in the vehicle laws.
Just a note, you have the right to be armed in your campsite and in your RV when it is parked and set up. Just like in your home, rented apartment, or in a motel room that you have rented....your campsite and your RV are your "home" while you are occupying them!
