Looking for advice on riding with 2 yr old. Family just getting started ATV/MC offroad riding. 5, 7, and 2 yr olds. I'm an old pro MXer from 70s/80s - rest of family no riding experience . . . yet.

Looking for advice on easy, safe places to trail ride in CA - we're in southern, but like it up in the Sierras. Also looking for advice on careful, slow riding with 2yr old. We mountain bike now with him in back child carrier on full suspension bike, or in a hiking backpack child carrier. Would a UTV sideXside with a child's seat mounted be best, or a utility 4X4 2 place ATV using the hiking backpack? Anyone have advice? What do other people do (safely)? Thanks for your reasoned advice!

 

We use a harness on our 2 year old girl. It 5 point mounts on her and then straps her in front of either one of us. It works great at the dunes, but not so good in the trails.

 

Thanks for your response. Can you give me more info on this harness? Where did you get it, what type is it/what is the name of it? Does it look like a front pack baby carrier that you wear on the front of you? Why not so good on the trails? Thanks!

 

It was givien to us by friends. I don't think it has any tags, but am not sure. It looks just like a safety harness that a workers wears, when up high. It is obviously smaller scaled, but basically all the same.
