We go every year, and unless your new to atving you will not have any trouble. I rode every black at Rockhouse and Buffalo Mtn. last year without any trouble at all. In my opinion, I would go to Rockhouse and Buffalo Mtn.
Good Luck

I am kinda new, although I did ride dirt bikes about 30 years ago. We are going to H/M in September, and I'm wondering what is the difficult things are on the blacks. Extreme hills, boulders and rocks, or trees and things across the trails? I'll be riding my 800 Sportsman, my son on a Kawie KFX700, his father-in law on a 650 Arctic Cat 2 up with his wife, and my daughter-in law on a 250 Can-Am. We are going to ride Rockhouse, and maybe Pinnacle. Any particular places we should avoud?

We rode Rockhouse in summer 07. The first time we went, was right after they had done maintenance on the trails. The riding was less difficult than the next time we went, which was about 3 months later. We rode all the black trails and if you are a proficient rider, you shouldn't have any problems. There is a newer trail map that marks 94,95 and 96 as extreme. I would recommend staying off those. We rode many times at Windrock, in Tennessee. Like you, I was curious as to what the trail marking system was like. Everyone has their idea of difficult. There wasn't any trail on Rockhouse that matched some of the difficulty of what we had ridden at Windrock. It's pretty rocky, and after a few months of no maintenance, the trails can be a bit rough. Lots of rocks, roots and ruts. I don't mind that sort of terrain, myself and we enjoyed riding there. It is beautiful, so take your camera. BTW, I rode my Predator sport quad on all the trails we rode, and my parents ride Sportsman 500's and they are in their 60's.
I live here in West Virginia now, and we have a place we camp and ride at for free, so there hasn't been a need to revisit the H/M trails. I do think they are great for out of towners though.
Good luck

Will see how the ladies do on the difficult stuff. They both have a few 1000 trail miles under their wings, will see what they do on the steep hills of WV. Good thing the Foreman's have a very stable platform.

I got some more experience this weekend. Rode almost 60 miles in Mark Twain National Forrest near Black Mo. Rode trails 1, 2, 3, 11, and parts of 12. If anybidy has ridden there AND H/M, how do some of those trails compair to the blacks on Rockhouse, and Pinnacle

Very interesting post, I hope there are more people on this site that have been to H/M that are willing to give those of us that haven't been there a better description of what is there and what to expect. I ride in what I consider to be pretty extreme conditions, but that is just my opinion. My idea of extreme may not be extreme to others. Extreme to me are hills that you are in danger of tipping over backwards, rolling over from steep hills or really deep crevases, mud that you can't make it through in 4X4 lock, and trails that are so rough that you are lucky if you ever see 25 mph only for a short burst. Where we ride it is as extreme as I have ever seen if you want it.

I found they rate the trails by how steep they are.
All the mud holes have go arounds, can't go around a hill climb.
Some are very long 100s of yards straight up the mountain.
All the HM trails are good, the scenery is close too, not much differance in the mt views.
Some of the blacks/red diamond are very easy with just 1 very steep section. I prefer going up to sliding down them.
