Did anyne else feel ripped off by the fact that the Salamanca run was shorter than normal. According to the my buddies odometer the ride was only 27 miles. It has been 40 miles in the past? Does anyone know what happened and why it was shorter. Not worth $15 for a 27 mile ride.

I agree with you. I also set my odometer to 0 at the start, when I was finished it said 29 miles. Still to short.

This was the first time I went to this dice run. I have heard that the past times were much longer.

I think the dice run that was in humprey was more challenging also.

But non the less I still had a blast. Its always fun to get out and ride.

Ride Hard but most of all RIDE SAFE.

The dice run in Humprey NY is about half hour from Salmanca. I beleive they had it two or three times this year.

The next one that comes up I will post it on this web site.

rjm- would definately be interested in knowing when the next run in Humphrey would be. Salamanca was a good ride its just too short. Cochranton is only another 1-2 hrs from Salamanca and that is a phenomenol ride. Has everything to challenge a rider.

Where is Cochranton and when is that next ride? How long is the ride?

I rode both Salamanca and Cochranton this past April. I clocked Salamanca at 28 miles, and Trail B at Cochranton at 35 miles with the factory accessory speedometer on my Kawasaki Bayou 400 4x4. I clocked Trail C at Cochranton at 29 miles, and Trail A at 52 miles. Trail A is mostly dirt roads and not much fun if you’re a mud crawling, rock hopping, hill climbing 4x4 pilot, but I always felt I got my money’s worth at both events.

Both trails were challenging, but Salamanca was more enjoyable because there were far fewer riders, 900+ at Salamanca versus 6600+ at Cochranton. One hour, dead stopped, engine off, traffic jams were the rule at Cochranton, not the exception. We waited in line for 3 hours at Cochranton just to get to the starting line. It then took another 3-1/2 hours just to go 8 miles. The traffic at Cochranton was terrible. The Los Angeles freeway at rush hour couldn’t be any worse.

Now that I’ve made three trips to Cochranton, and I’ve ridden all three trails, I’m not sure if I’ll go back again. I will go back to Salamanca though.

Heres my take on Salamanca vs Cochranton. (By the way Cochranton is in Western PA approx 60 miles south of Erie) Salamanca was better in that there were no traffic jams and you were never held up. I agree that the traffic at Cochranton is a real pain. However, i will say that if you have never been there its pretty cool the first time to see 6000 quads all in one place. After all it is the largest poker run in the world! I rode both Tral A and Trail B at Cochranton. I thought without a doubt that both of those trails were more challenging than Salamanca. In fact there really is nothing that challenging at Salamanca. 99% of the mudholes are hard on the bottom and you cant get stuck if you tried and not many hill climbs to speak of. Dont get me wrong i thought the terrain was fun just not overly challenging. Cochranton had steeper hills, much deeper mud, and some of those hills were quite rocky as well. Not to mention the trails at Cochranton are longer. For me its really a tradeoff- I like the longer trails at Cochranton better but i like Salamcanca because there is no traffic congestion. All in all i suppose i will continue to ride both. CT 00 Scrambler 500
