We are planning a big ride on the first Sat/SUN of March. Everybody is invited to ride at the St.James sand trails down around Supply/Southport, NC. We just started planning the trip but we will probably go down early Saturday morning and campout in the sand dunes on the IntraCoastal Waterway and come back home late Sunday. Look at the thread "Where in NC" for a trail report on the sand trails at the beach. I will post more info as it comes in!

Just wondering if these are the same trails across from Dan's Fan City?

That was a good guess. I think those are the only trails near the beach that are any good. Do you ride there??

I went there (during hunting season) and got lost just as it was getting dark. Bunch of camoflauged hillbillys told me that if i didnt find a way out I would be SOL. Finally got out just before dark. NEVER go by myself again.

I don't know how, but I have a very good sense of direction even in new areas. We went down there for the first time and I found the sand dunes and IntraCoastal Waterway which I thought was amazing since I only saw it from the Jetski early in the year. We found our way out too. The guy I was with took a different turn on purpose and got lost for about 15 mins. The best way to ride new areas like that one is take the same turn every time, like only take the left fork everytime so when you come out you can remember which way you went. I am going to take a GPS with us and map it out.

Later,

Steve

I am interested in meeting you for that ride on the NC beach. Do you know how long it would take me to get there from Raleigh?

I am not sure how long it would take. We are coming from Greensboro and Winston-Salem and I think it is around 4hours. We are going down Friday the 3rd camping out Friday and Saturday coming back Sunday. Hopefully we will have a big crowd, the more the better! I just looked at the map and it looks like you could take 40 into Wilmington and 17S to 211 then 211 9 miles towards Southport. Maybe around 3hrs??? Within the next week I will post the times and where to meet. We might plan to meet somewhere before we go into the sand.

I dont know what I am doing wrong, but I cant seem to bring up your ride report. I am really interested in coming to the ride, and I am pretty sure I can get some of my friends to come too. It would be a rather diverse group I would be bringing with me. Sport quads, and utes...old and young. I would be coming from Alta Vista, VA which is only about 1 1/2 hrs from Greensboro. So I guess I am looking at about a 6 hr trip.

Well, if you can help me out with the ride report let me know. With all the snow we got right now I am very anxious to get out and ride.

"Somebody" <IMG SRC="http://www.pinn.net/~nunnally/faces/face16.gif">
took the thread "Where in NC" off the list??????? Now there are no directions for any of the areas in NC!! I will find another site that has the directions and write-up. We are taking a short trip down to the St.James Sand dunes this coming Saturday. We will get down there around 10:00 am and check on where we can park and who the land owners are, plus we will map out the many of the trails and show the main trail straight to the dunes where we will be camping. We will post the ride report from this trip and inform everybody of the specifics. If anybody wants to join us for a one-day ride this Sat. , come on. Let me know and we can meet at McDonald's or Dan's Fans City.
See y'all soon,
