426ex, can you tell me a little more about this place.
Wife and I have 4 wheelers and my three boys (all under 10) have MX bikes and I have thought about taking the family up there to ride. I have never been there and wondered what it was like. Is it a place to take young kids to ride? Are there trails or just open dunes?
Is there a website dedicated to this place?
Thanks

I will try to tell you something about Silver Lake. I went there for the first time last weekend. What an awesome place to ride!!! It is approximately 450 acres of opens dunes to ride, jump, hill climb, and drag race. There are quite a few websites out there with specific rules, etc. I am not sure about the kids riding though. I know in Michigan, that riders under 16 must have passed a certified safety course and be able to present the certificate. I did see them deny some kids access because they could not produce it. Check out the Michigan DNR websites to get the specific rules. Also note that if you plan on going during the weekend, that you must play the voucher game. The dunes have more people wanting to ride than it can handle on weekends, so they use a voucher system to allow access. Again, the DNR website explains the system pretty well. To ride, you will have to purchase a Michigan ORV sticker ($16.25) plus a state park sticker ($4 per day) for each vehicle. You truck will also need the state park sticker. To ride in the dunes, you need to have a flag that, when mounted on the machine, reaches 10foot. They will make you drive under a pole that is 10 foot up and you must hit it. It is best to buy the flags at the Dune shop at the entrance so that you have the right flags. The are about $20 each. Hope this helps. There are plenty of riders in the forum that ride there regularly and should be able to answer any additional questions.

I am coming from the east (MN). Has anyone ever taken that fairy across the lake? I seen on the map a fairy runs across real close to the dunes. Can trucks with a trailer go on it? Otherwise I have to drive all the way around the lake.

You guys coming from out of State to ride the dunes, be ware... Unless you have friends or relatives nearby, to get vouchers for you, you will be hard pressed to get into the park on the weekend. Kids out of school, vacations, the locals get all the vouchers first because they know the system. Just do your homework first, before you float two hours across the lake... Or, come anyway and watch everybody else ride...

The parking lot vouchers for Saturday are given out on Friday at 6:00pmat the voucher center just outside the park. I am not sure when about Sunday vouchers. You should be able to pick them up sometime Saturday. No vouchers are required during the week.
