Here in NJ we are supposed to register our atvs so we can ride on public lands but then we have another law that contradicts it by saying we are not allowed to ride public lands...

Are there any other states that have this problem....if so nay ideas on what we jersey kids could do

thanks

ok. there was an article in our local newspaper(williamson wv) that there was no law against atvs on secondary roads in our state but when i get pulled over on my atv in complete compliance with the law(no speeding, drinking, was wearing helmet) by some barney fife doghnut eatin jackass he says he can impound my four wheeler by state law and acted real sh-tty towards me BUT in that same town (matewan) atvs had just been approved to come in to town off of the hatfield mccoy trail. MY CONCLUSION IS THAT ATVING IS A GREAT HOBBY AND FORM OF RECREATION BUT SOMEBODY ALWAYS HAS TO BE A JACKASS. The deputy that pulled me over has been a pure d-ick in public everytime i see him and i try to speak and be nice to him in a sincere manner. Well I guess he does'nt realize that he is there to serve me: I pay his salary when i go to work and pay too much taxes!

yeah I live in nj too I think they do this to make us feel like theres no where to ride and give up riding. If ya have a hole in the woods go riding and be careful or maybe go to a private land owner and work a deal out like youll help him/her to take care of property when not riding..It will make a private land owner more willing and it lets them know you mean business, hey if I was a older gent an some kid was gonna cut my lawn Id let him ride in a heartbeat but then again thats just me.Maybe that cop in wv maybe u need to speak up to him, some people thats what they want or it takes to get respect from them, not be nasty just speak up to him or maybe you should be a Pr*ck and let him earn his keep lol.any way I just got my banshee friday and boy did i get a deal on all the goodies it has on it.well happy riding going to go back to staring at my chrome toomeys and SHEE in the garage

Well I haven't had any problems here in Indiana, but I don't ride on the roads. We have a web page that points out exactly what counties we can ride on and what we have to do in order to be legal. I don't remember any of the guide lines but I saw the page once. AT THIS POINT I don't have a need for it, so I am not to worried about it.
As far as New Jersey goes... they ticked me off!!! I drove all the way out there to go on a ride my brother was a part of in the Pine Barrens. Everyone else was driving trucks, but I didn't mind riding my quad... I get there and then find out that the trails are for street legal vehicles only... and I ain't talking just registered... has to be the whole nine yards. Needless to say I took a $600 trip, blew out my knee, and didn't even get to ride. The worst part was, that the trails weren't that fun for trucks, but would have been a great time (w/o much challenge though) for a quad. Maybe if the schmucks were a little smarter they would charge $5 a day and let anyone ride the trails. Then if they are worried about people trashing the place and making new trails, have sign ins and crap. Maybe this way the 5,000 park rangers they employ would have something to do!
Had to rant.. sorry.

Here is some information for you. I am here at a New York State ATV Club Rally and to be honest we talked about this same issue. It is not just a NJ thing it is a national thing. In New York we have just sent a bill to legislation to get some of our registration monies. In Long Island they have banned ORV riding period. You are not alone in this fight. I would recommend that you contact a local ATV club and join them. I would also like to recommend checking out www.nysorva.org for more information about the bill and just about anything ATV related. Hope this helps.

Nj sucks, thats why when I get a chance to get out of here, I am gone. I have a nice place to ride, but its just a long trip getting there.
Thats why I am house in the deserts of Arizona, because I want my back yard to be me riding area :-) peace
