Is there sand dunes open to ATV`s in the U.P. of MI?
#2
The only sand dunes that I know of in the UP is the Grand Sable Dunes near Grand Marais, MI. These dunes are part of the National Park and have been off limits to ATV use since the 70s. It used to be a big destination for dune buggies and the such.
Now it will probably get you a big federal ticket.
Lots of areas to ride in the UP. If you want info, feel free to email back. We are holding a poker run in mid July in the eastern UP.
Later.

Oooh, Rich! I'm scared of you...
Better, you practice since you've been outta school awhile. Bill, will have to send you back if you don't go on your own...
It should be a lot of fun getting to the horse shoe pits after the run each day. We'll be tired from riding but Bill's got a touch and some times, myself, before the beer takes over.

Chuck or Rich,
Is it reasonable to expect you could go to Pat's,Toby's,Strong's,Curn's and the Bear Butt by leaving mid-morning? I'd like to get 5 cards in (minimum?) and take it easy on Saturday and maybe explore a little. Any idea how much time it takes to shoot the grade to Brimley? Talk to you there. John

Brimley is a 30 mile straight run from Strongs down the grade. It is not that far as long as you stay out of the casino. It is a straight railroad grade but we may have a stop at the Iroquios Inn because there is a killer hill there that Todd found (he was there at last years with the Sportsman 500 and stayed at my lodge in the woods).
As far as the shoes go, you are right. It has been 20 years since I threw. But I'm not afraid to put the beer money up if I lose.
It will be fun.
I think Todd is talking about putting a late night ride to the falls and Whitehorse landing together. We went last spring and had a ball. Left at 12:30am and got back at 3:30 am. 70 miles of nice road. Full moon and no clouds made it cool (as long as the bears aren't out).

Rich,
Thanks for the info. Still was wondering if you could leave your hotel(mid-morning around 10)go down to Pat and Toby's(including the west loop off 123)go back up to Strongs road and hit Strong's,Curn's and the Bear Butt on the way home(maybe stopping for lunch at Trout Lake). I've got three groups from in/out state meeting and want to just unload and ride.(wasn't sure I'd get a chance to talk with you beforehand). Might do Brimley and the truck trails on Sat. Thanks again, John

John, Rich, could answer your question better than I. I was riding with another gentleman who knew the area well. We did all but three of the eleven stops in one day last year. Saved the casino for Saturday. I don't think you will have a problem but not sure.
Rich, the nite ride sounds like a blast. Count us in... I don't know why Bill's not here but I'll let him know what's going on.
