As long as my Grizz will plow the supposed 18" waiting in the driveway of my cabin, I'll be riding up north this weekend. Anybody got a good winter trail up there. I've only ridden the trails without snow.

My brother has a place in Mancilona to.Be careful where you ride up there. In the Lower Penninsula, you can legally operate ATVs ONLY on designated trail systems.I dont want to see you get your ATV impounded for improper use.
Did you visit the Michigan ATV site yet?

Hoarsnest,
Try the Kalakaska trails just south of you (extensive; please post back on your experience if you go) or just travel a few miles NE into Cheboygan, Montmorency or Presque Isle counties. You can ride all week off the designated trail system on the seasonal roads and see some of the best scenery our great state has to offer. Just check with the local DNR for details.
Have fun!

Muddy4life - I ride all over up there in the summer. My cabin is in the middle of a large tract of private land so I am not worried about getting impounded. Whenever we leave there we always ride trails anyway. I have ran into quite a few CO's up there and they are actually fairly nice. I go to the MI-ATV site quite often. I think I posted there once or twice before the forum format change, but there doesn't seem to be much traffic in the forum now. I wrote an email a long time ago asking for a brochure with the membership application, Richard write me about 2 or 3 weeks ago saying he was very sorry for overlooking my email and said he would get a brochure out to me right away, but I have still have seen anything. I did find a brochure in Extreme Powersports in Galord this weekend.(BTW- I know how to spell the town, filter software on this forum won't let me spell it correctly.)
Michimaniac - I have ridden the Kalkaska trails (as well as most others in the northern lower) quite a bit in the summer. The north loop is one of my favorite trails. I was just looking for some input on winter riding. We ended up riding the Leetsville trail just east of Kalkaska. It was a real nice ride. About half the trail we were on old snowmobile tracks, the rest of the time we were breaking trail through about 8" - 10". That was the most enjoyable part, but hard on the machines.

Hoarsnest,
I live so close to you,the next time im going to ride the Mounds,I'll let you know.Maybe you can join us and I'll bring you as many MATVA pamplets as you want.
The advantage of keeping an eye on the MATVA Trail Talk Forum is you or anyone can ride with us.Someone posts a date on when they want to ride,we than respond, and away we go.Since the new Forums been up,we have had 3 group rides and all were a lot of fun.We had 15 riders for the Meadows ride,9 riders for the Mounds ride, and 7 of us just finished Gladwin last Sunday.

Muddy4life -
The "Where to Ride" section is the one that I keep the closest eye on. I have been trying to hook up with one of your rides, but my schedule just hasn't worked out right yet. I plan to get involved with the club eventually, but for now I am just watching from the shadows.

Shawn/Bill,
Reread my post and hope I didn't appear to mean that Bill didn't know about the other counties as I'm sure he does(he's been to twice the areas I have).
Thanks a bunch for your thoughts on Kalkaska(N.); I'll try it, but will probably wonder about the south leg; is it worth the extra time?
Thanks again,
John
