Spider Lake, MN, trails closed???????

I sure hope this is a mistake,
I stopped by a friends house, started talking about the upcoming spring riding, and he said he heard on the news that the Spider Lake trail system would not be open to ATVs or other motorized vehicles. I know the DNR was going to do enviromental study this year to assess damage, but close it without any real investigation? If any MN riders have heard about this, PLEASE let me know, this is one of the few good spots close enough for a quick day time ride, and my son and I really like it there. The DNR just got done putting in a parking area for trucks and trailers, and new bathrooms in 2 spots, why close it??? Thanks for any info on this.

Ya, I found out later this spring the trials weren't fully closed, but we lost about half the miles that were there, from 60 down to about 30 miles open now. A lot of the truck trails are closed, along with the challenge area, and the gravel pits that were on both sides of the road coming in are now closed off, what a shame, a great warm up and parking area, and it had a mini track my son loved to ride. Goes to show you how bad press can make the public pressure for closing riding areas, Spider Lake has been featured in the Star Tribune several times as an example of the "evils" of trail damage caused by inconsiderate ATV riders. So to all you "I can ride where I want, when I want" and "louder is better", this is what we get for ignoring signs and ticking off the non-riding public, they watch us very closely, waiting for a chance to take some pictures and turn us in, squeezing us out of more and more riding areas.
