Aroostook County Maine (Crown of Maine)

I would say that a beautiful place to ride is in Northern Aroostook County Maine! Long Lake is beautiful frozen (36 Inches) and granular. It like riding on the salt flats of Nevada! 10 miles long and approx 2 miles wide! Lot's of others that ride here also. Local clubs everywhere. Frenchville has cabins to stop at and warm up in. Heck in Canada they even groom the trails for ATV. $20.00 canadian for membership! This winter we have been able to ride on top of the crusty snow for approx. 3-4 weeks. This is fun! can go anywhere. If you were to ride in a remote location I would recommend Northern Aroostook County Maine.

I know exactly why - People who are not "local" are still not treated very warmly. I figure the locals are still torqued off about the Air Force closing the Loring AFB and taking all those juicy military paychecks out of the state. No longer can they charge 110% of your monthly income for a garage with a toilet in it and call it an apartment. And you don't have to pay over MSRP price for a new car, couch or TV. Locals now pay the pump price at the gas station without "discounts" and car repairs are no longer twice the cost as VanBuran or Bangor. Not everything has changed - The spud trucks still plug up the roads.
It is pretty. But maybe to remote for me. BTDT - USAF Loring AFB 73-77
