I can!t beleive that with 48000 licensed ATVs in the state that from my original post, only 1 rider replied! Wake up all of you! Snowmobiles have 8000 miles of state trails funded by YOUR registration fees and maintained by YOUR reistration fees and it seems that no one wants to help band together and put our support behind these clubs.Simply amazing!! If any of you have snowmobiles, you know that the trail system is great here in NY. How great are your ATV trails? Look at some of the other posts from other riders in other states and see what they are asking--- " Where can we ride? " If you all want to ride on any lands outside of your own, its time to help these clubs out, and the way to do it is to JOIN THEM!!! Don!t expect others to do all the work. As you can see, NY State is not going to give us anything for our fees UNLESS WE stand up and let them know we are tired of our monies going into their general funds and not where they were supposed to go, into trail funding and construction of these trails. Think about the 8000 miles of SNOWMOBILE TRAILS, not ATV TRAILS, and how do you all think these trails were gotten? By all the snowmobilers banding together in CLUBS and voicing their wants and needs. Where I ride here in Western NY, all the landowners have given permission to all the snowmobilers to ride on their lands, and how did they get this permission--SNOWMOBILE CLUBS again! They have posted signs all over- " NO ATVs permitted " They have even gotten the local Sheriffs deputies ATVs and snowmobiles to keep us off the trails.Joining a club is cheap considering how much money is invested in your ATVs, and possibly in the near future,if you don!t have your own lands, you may not be riding. Enough said! Hope some of you forum readers get this message- I did! I just joined 2 clubs- both 6 hours away from my home but I will try to support them any way I van because I really enjoy this sport and am tired of being treated like an outlaw when I go off my own property.

What area of NY are you in Pete? I am in Orange County now (SE NYS). I would love to start a club but first we have to get at least a few dozen people together to show some kind of clout at all. I am willing to help in any way I can but we have to get some interested people together first.

Even though I do not have an atv club nearby, I and my brother inlaw from West Seneca, NY have joined 2 atv clubs in the Adirondacks, alittle closer to you John! We are also joining the Ontario Federation of ATV clubs. This organization just recently started and already have some nice trails to ride and also one more important thing, they have all the ATV manufacturers behind them. This is one thing we DO NOT have in NYS. Our local ATV dealers have done NOTHING to help promote our concerns even though they are the ones reaping the $$profits!! Time these dealers got off their duffs and backed their customers on this subject or maybe their profits will dwindle. But they sure bend over backwards to promote the snowmobiling!!! If you would like to join either of these organizations, let me know and I will give you their websites. Pete

I just got finished talking to a fella who is an officer in the recently formed Ontario Federation of ATVs. He told me that up til now, the snowmobilers wanted NO atvs on the trails, even though most were owned by the ontario government. After a lot of work, this organization got atv clubs started, some with existing snowmobile clubs and started the wheels moving towards shared trails. There are some 30,000 sled trails in Ontario and they bring in over 1 billion $ per season from the snowmobilers! These people got together and saw the potential for atvs and the economic benefits these places would get and they already have some nice trails to ride on legally. One of the great backers of this deal was the Ontario atv DEALERS who are the ones making the profits from us. They have backed the OFATV 100%! Something these dealers here in western NY state have not done or willl probably never do! They don!t seem to see the sky for the clouds! Without trails and all the groups trying to ease us off the public and private lands, they won!t be selling anymore atvs, but they don!t seem to care. In Ontario, last year the ATV sold more than did the snowmobiles.
