Mojaveman1, Where is Ivanhoe?
This is just the beginning. The tribune will not let this rest and the slimy newspaper and the slimy bag reporter are just the tip of the iceberg. They are going to play this BS game out until no one is communicating in the state to get things where they need to be. Tell me, do you really feel comfortable with 4-wheelers heading up north? You are an automatic criminal and the younger you are the more fingers go pointing. They are going to play that BS all year: "It's too wet", then this fall don't be surprized if they play the "It's to dry, might start a fire", then it's hunting season, and all trails shut down Dec 1st. The politics are about to kill everything that has been worked on in the past in just one riding season. No doubt, the DNR are going to have to come up with a quota of tickets, everyone is looking for a body count and the politicians won't let the DNR off easy with just a few written citations to locals either. They will need an amount to make the paper for the justification of the DNR enforcement. Remember, if it's not an "official" trail by MN or DNR standards, it's cross country travel(big issue) even if you rode your favorite trail last year, this year it's cross country travel. That's the law now, No cross country travel". Think about that for a minute. If you blaze a trail with an ATV knocking down brush to make a path, or take your brush cutter and chainsaw out with you, what is the difference? There is none, it's considered cross country.
I just don't like the way this is going. If you put this into a money view, you'll see that ATV's are the least costly, compared to a big Lake boating. You restrict or ticket an ATV'er and it's unlikely they'll have the funds to fight the ticket and just pay the BS fine. DNR hands a ticket to a big lake boater and it can be tied up in court for months. Who's got the money to fight the BS? It's a cash cow and feather for the DNR enforcement to pick on the weak recreationalist. There's already been more tickets handed out to boater's during fishing opener than there will be all year to ATV'ers and yet, ATV'ers will make the paper as the Bad Boys of MN, now under control by the DNR. It's almost a joke if it wasn't so sad.
