I leave my truck every year in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and I drive my ATV right on the NFLD ferry to Port aux Basques and then by trail for 1000 km to Argentia (the other side of the rock) and I come back on the Argentia Ferry back to North Sydney.

It's the rail line but you are not there for the road, your there for the scenery and the hospitality. I got nice rought trails at home, NFLD railway is too smooth and too much gravel but it is still nice, I go every year. You can leave the rail way and explore and then go back the trail. It only takes 4-5 days to cross but if you are there for 10-16 days you will see good trails off the railway bed. The last trip I put 1600 km and seen lots of wildlife and new trails. It cost me $500 CAN (and that's generous) for 9 days.
My 400KVF was a rock. I did nothing serious to it but add gas. on the other hand... I had issues from day one with my 650 check out the form called "service calls" in the kawi section. I love the 650 though.

the guy i know had a tour guide who was an X military srgt. so the trip was hell! mabey it wasn't the same one as you're describing, but one guy in the group had a flat tire and the guide wouldn't even stop and help!! i know the trip you're talking about now, you take the quad across the ferry and it's on the old railway.
on another topic there's an old rail bed behind my cousins house (Cobiquid trail) and there's signs that say no motorized vehicles, but horses can use it and crap all over it. very stupid, atvs bring a lot of money into the economy. Have you heard of Big Al's in tatamagouce (sp) they had 200 snowmobiles in the field by their bar one day all waiting to get in (think of the money!!)

Was that a tour by Frank? I set Frank up years ago.... took a guided tour the first year back in 97. I went now I just go atleast once a year.... no reservations for motels THAT's the key, you need another day no problem... all you need to do is get to the ferry. And if motels are all booked that's what tents are for. We only spent one night last trip in a motel.... Life is better in the bush:>.
Cobiquid trail? are you in Nova Scotia? I'm in Halifax. We are hitting the rock the first week in Aug 03. People from Saint Margets Bay are going with us. We just took people from Pictou with us.
