Chris, I'm not real big at all on dunes!! My preference is desert cross-country, and mountain riding. I get my fill of dunes in the summer at Pismo, when the desert weather is too hot. (And, it is more like another hour to get to Dumont.)
You should check Rasor out!!! There is a medium size dune complex, some sandy riverbead where you can fly, and trails in the hills. We practically had the place to ourselves!! From Rasor we ran down Afton canyon (the Mojave River comes to the surface here). There are two deep water crossings (like over the top of 25" tires). The off-road group from my church came out and joined us. One guy had a Hummer (this thing cost like $170,000!!!). Now the Hummer has a snorkle that is outside at hood level. The Hummer driver hit the water at 30 mph and drowned the snorkle, and it took an hour to get the thing dried out and started again. Ah, the good old trailside repairs!!
Off the I-15, take Rasor Rd. exit. The road heads east for a couple of miles, then turns south. Go in about 7 miles, to a nice flat staging area. It is never crowded, even on holiday weekends.

Sunday the 3rd might be a possibility??? Gorman is to far for us for a day ride, but somewhere in the high desert might be OK. What about Wild Wash (near Stoddard on the I-15).

A friend of mine lives in Lucerne Valley. We are gonna leave from there sunday morning. Not sure on the times yet though.
Last sunday we left from my house in Apple valley. We went out past the old Apple valley dump and into the southern tip of stoddard valley. We went around a couple of big hills and up a canyon with small dunes at the end.Went over a hill (following a trail) and ended up about 5-7 miles north of Lucerne Dry lake and back to my friends place in Lucerne where we gassed up and headed home.
We saw the dinosaur house and the cabboose out there.......I have heard of them but never seen em.......Crazy!

We are doing Ocotillo Wells this weekend (11-9), but the weather is a little sketchy. It will probably be windy, but we had the trip planned for a long time, so we are going to go anyway. On the weekend of 11-23, there is a group going to Dumont so we might tag along for that. Thanksgiving we might do Rasor. I haven't been to Dove Springs/Red Rock, so I need to get out there sometime!!
