trx450 -- I dont know what a P-650 is worth, but $4628 in damage sounds like a total to me.
My group of friends trys to make a yearly 4-wheeler trip. Our Fall 2001 trip was to the Wayne National Forest in Ohio. You live there? The trails there were cool, but not marked nearly as well as H-M. If we go back there we will have the handheld GPS. I would think the Wayne Forest would be much more fun for a sport quad than H-M. The terrain and rocks (boulders really) at H-M must kill you on a non-independent rear suspension.
Do you know of any other spots like H-M or WNF in the mid-atlantic region that would be worth spending a week at?

MZ-When you go, post, and someone will show you around the place. I might as well live there. I was in WNF every weekend, except 5, last season!
There are lots of posts about riding The Wayne in that "other forum", I am over there all the "TIME". P.M. me, if you don't know which forum I am alluding to. I'd be glad to show you around!
Nope, it wasn't quite a total! Close, but no cigar. Later, Mike.

Hatfield and McCoy Trails are awesome for a sport quad. Well at least the Rock House Trail system was. We didn't have enough time to hit any of the other systems. Trail 13 and 31 were fun and I think 26 was another one I liked. There was a smooth up hill section on 26 that was pretty cool. I have a few pic of where we stayed but no action shots Hatfield and McCoy Don't try to take 10 all the way to Gilbert from Man. It was closed do to a mud slide. They might have it cleaned up shortly. Be sure to pick up an updated map at the trail heads so you know what is opened and closed before you head out.

Another good place is the Coal Creek Mining Company riding area in Northern Tennesee. Very comparable to HM.

We're riding at H/M this weekend. Leaving in a couple of hours! I called one of the rangers @ Rockhouse (Todd H) he said that 10 is still closed. If you go to the H/M website, they have updated the map. Trail 10 on the right side of the map is not there - there are also a couple of trails that used to be blue that are now black. ALWAYS get an up to date map (like daily) for riding there - the weather can change things dramatically in one day. Can't wait to get there!! It's the first ride out for the P-650s.

I recommend airing your tires up too 5.5-6 pounds too avoid flats and ride within your ability. I have met guys that have rode all their life on crippled quads.......just not used too riding the terrain.

We just got back from riding at H/M - a friend that went with us took his DS650 - he did fine. He only bottomed out a couple of times. We rode our P-650s, the DS650, a 400 Outlander and a V-Force. Had A BLAST. We rode Rockhouse and some private trails at Buffalo Mtn. for 3 days.

I am planning on comming down to the H/M for a week this summer. I only have a Kawasaki 220 Bayou. It's 2 wheel drive and just about the smallest adult ATV sold. Its a utility style ATV. Do I need to think about skid plates or is that mainly for the sports models. I've only been riding for a year but I ride every weekend, sometimes sat and sun. So I'm not inexperienced. I don't go too fast. I mostly just enjoy the exploration rather than jumping over stuff and racing fast.

Also, my brother is interested in comming to but doesn't own an ATV. Just an enduro style motorcycle. Will he be able to ride these trails or not?

Cowsaki - you should be ok. I rode it on a Rally and a Recon before getting the Prairie. Stick with the green trails till you get a feel for the place though. Your brother on the enduro will be fine (if it has a back tire with good traction ) Have fun - ride safe--it's a blast down there. (Mrs. Q)
