Default Big Bear 400 4x4

whats the deal with this big bear 400 4x4. is it powerful? nimble? good acceleration? does it feel heavy? whats its top speed? is the 4 wheel drive a good set up? since its got a limited slip, does that make it less capable? over all whats its "feel" while riding? any other opinions would help alot. Thanks guys!

I don't have the 4x4 but the motor is stout, it is geared very low so it will climb and pull very good.

My riding buddy has a 02 Big Bear 400 and we switch up sometimes. In my opinion the Pig Bear is a dressed up utility quad (great for farm chores)

Positives:
High torque
selectable 2wd/4wd
Durable
With a good rider you can conqueer any obstacle
nimble due to narrow width
lots of fun in the slop

Negatives:
low horsepower
geared waaay to low
SLOOOOOOW
very narrow for it's weight
very tippy
ultra low tech suspension
wolverine will run circles around it
very stiff auto clutch tranny
carb boots come off easily

Thats about all I can think of right now.
If price is a major issue buy a wolverine
If not save up a little more cas and buy the Grizzly or the prarie 650

Hello I've driven the newer BB's. I think that there a great ATV. There not the fastest out there by no means but I find that they are a pretty well rounded atv. It's an atv that works well and is user friendly. Compared the the older bears it shifts really well. I would not be afraid to buy the BB.

i'm too lazy to write much right now but i've ridden mine about 1000 miles now and i ride with a guy that takes his '92 BB 350 out like every weekend.

Great machines, extremely low price, suspension isn't all that bad (still better than Hondas). They do almost as good as a Polaris in the snow, and they have lots of clearance and do good in the muck and woods because they're narrow. They're pretty lightweight for a 400, and the racks are pretty good for stock. The stock tires are moderate...they slip a little on real tough hill climbs with the sharp rocks. The top speed is like 45-55 depending on elevation and such. The only real complaint i have iwth mine is the cauling kinda bugs me since the front mudflaps can get caught if things get real bad. I just spent about 50 bucks and got custom mudflaps on, which are better than anything i've ever seen on a quad.

They can be a little tipsy because they're narrow, but i dont mind really. The way i see it, if the slope is steep enough to even possibly flip it over i'm gonna have my weight on the uphill side anyways, and if i cant keep it from flipping with my weight, then the hills too steep no matter how well balanced the machine is.

I have recently purchased a Big Bear and I love it. I dont really mind it being geared low because it is great for the mud. You dont need to go that fast on wooded trails anyway.

ive got a 01 bigbear...1-3 gears are very low and very close to each other...there is very little acceleration in these...once u hit 4th it takes of..then it takes off again once you hit 5th...very powerful and you can go through trails real slow in 3rd...you dont have to rev it up to go up hills or anything...it just chugs along...the 4x4 is capable of doing most things...the one thing that i ahte about it is the palstic design...the black fenders get torn and once they are torn...they are a pain..if u hit water or anything too fast they come off...they arent hard to fix but its annoying...overall i love it...i used to love to wind out my bayou in 5th but this is much more fun to drive at lower speeds...

I have one and i love it. It goes everywhere i point it, well most of the time.
-fries- where did you get custom mud flaps?? My Bear Claws decided that they liked my mud flaps last night, so much in fact the they tried to tear one of them smooth off the bike. Its still on there but most of its gone so i have to come up with some kind of fix.
