Really stupid question, but. . .
I've never had a foam filter before, only K&N. I need oiling tips.
I've got the Pro-Design Foam Filter with Adaptor for the Rappy. What is the best way to oil the filter? Do you have to take the cages out? I was afraid that I'd screw it all up trying to get those out of there.
It says not to use spray oil, only to dunk it in oil. I sprayed it and then massaged the oil in with the cages still in the filter. Is that OK?
Also, do I need to run the outerwrap or is it OK without.
Thanks for helping.

you probably know why you have oil on your filter. So in my opinion as long as you get a lot of it on there, it's fine. Doesnt matter if you dunk it or pour it on, or massage it in, the oil is still going to be going the same purpose in the same way.

Gotcha, thanks guys.
Dfitz,
I've had K&N on my Rappy before the foam, with the Pro-Design adaptor so I know it was sealed good. I found dirt in my intake b/w the carbs and the filters after only a mild day in the dust. Too much for me! Also, I've had many recommendations that the foam stops dirt much better than the K&N and only flows a little less.
But, with the Pro-Design set up, the outlets on the filter to the intake tubes are much bigger on the foam than the K&N so it looks to be about even in flow even though the foam may be a little more restrictive.
I bit the bullet and bought a new adaptor plate and foam Pro-Design filter for my new 686 build. Better safe than sorry. Also, Pro-Design themselves said he'd only run a foam filter for ATV use, no K&N.
Thanks for the tips though!
