Hey guys, is the only thing different with a 2-stroke than a 4-stroke that you have to mix oil in with the gas, other than that, are they the same maintanance, or is the 2-stroke going to be more? What is this I hear about the 2-strokes being outlawed or something because they are loud? Am i just seeing things, or is this really happening? Thanks, Ryan

There are many differences between two strokes and four strokes. Do some research on the net and you can read all about it. Basically the 2's have less moving parts, are lighter, and can produce more power per cc. The do however polute more and that is what you are hearing about them being outlawed.
They are not really outlawing them, however if they are built for recreational use after 2006 (I think) they have to meet the epa requirements for emmisions. Most manufacturers are not interested in dumping that much money into r&d to acheive what can be done, so they take the easy road and put a 4 stroke engine out of some other motorcycle into a quad frame.
So, two strokes will not be outlawed, but they will most likely not be produced after 2006. And yes you are correct that you have to mix the oil in the gas for most two strokes, some however are injected with oil. Maintenance wise you dont really have to do anything special, change the tranny oil every so often, clean the filters, and lube the chain.
