Anyone using a Web 685 cam in a Rappy?
#1
I noticed today that Web Cams updated their website and added another cam to the list. I was set on using a Stage II Hot Cam in my 727, but now this new Web 685 grind has me rethinking my choice. Anybody running the Web 685 grind?

The web 685 is not a "drop in" cam. You will have to shorten all your valve guides, and then assemble and make a dry run with some plado. After you take it back apart you will then need to get the right clearences at the piston with the help of a grinder. I would also put brand new springs that have been cryo treated. That is a big cam. It might not be the hot ticket for a 300 foot race but should work well on hills. If your head will flow at 9000 rpm or better it should be good. You will not have much power below 3500 rpm and will have to set your idle higher. I do not think web has any on the shelf.

Sounds like a good cam for the 1/8 mile.
What kind of price? The same I assume. I guess you need a core too don't you?

i currently have that cam and 12.5 to 1. there is no power loss below 3500.
when i swapped the cam i also went with a bigger bore so who knows what the power gains might be.
only time will tell how hard it is on the valve train. i believe that on a 727 with stock size carbs this cam will not reach its full potential.
