Default To do or not to do ?Question about piston and cam installation

Hi - Ive been thinking of putting in a new piston(11:1) and cam(stage 1) in my raptor for awhile and now have the money. I was wondering if I should have the local shop put them in or could I do it myself without F*$%ing it up too bad. I have one of those CD manual things that explains pretty good about everything on the raptor. Or should I get one of those cam and piston installation CDs on ebay. Please help. By the way Im no moron blow joe I know about motors just not that well yet. So what do you guys think? Also can you still run this set-up on premium fuel.

You can do it yourself since you got the manual book and good tools to work it. Also have the patient to put the motor together.

I got the same set up as you are putting into your motor. Premium gas would do it. it wouldn't hurt to put a little of race gas. I usually put about 2 gallon plus 3 gallon of premium. That way I don't have to worry of hearing the pinging.

Also good power increase I would say maybe up to 25 more increase all around.

Is it necessary to have the cylinder honed before replacing the piston? My '03 has about 20 hours on it and I would like to do this mod as well.

You need to size the piston to the cyclinder and platten hone it. You also need to file fit the rings

Wildchild,

I'd go ahead and do the work yourself (other than any machining required)....raptortranny.com will get ya through the disassembly.
