raptor problems
#1
My friend has a 02 raptor.
The rear brakes quit working, he replaced the pads and still has nothing.
Any way to test the caliper or master cyll?
Also the oil tank is leaking badly from the bottom, he replaced the o-ring and it still didn't seal. Has anyone else had these problems?

He's got a crack in the oil tank some where. The stock oil tanks are basicaly overpriced junk. As for the brakes, does he have oil in the reservoir? Has he tried bleeding the brakes? Check the little rubber bushings on the bolts that go through the caliper. If these are missing you will need to pump the brakes to get them to work. When he changed the pads did he put in the little washer/spacer thing that goes inside the caliper piston just inside the brake pad?

If he can pump the brakes and get them back, I think it would be a slightly bent disk. The extra "travel" side to side of a bent disk pushes the calipers piston back in the caliper further when your not on the brakes. When you hit the brakes it may take a couple pumps to get it back into range. Each time you press the peddle the piston only moves slightly.
I just put one of those wave brake rotors on my freinds '03 to replace his bent stocker, the wave rotor was alot thicker and had a beefier look to it.
Those stock oil tanks are super thin, wrenching too much on any of the fittings breaks em real easy. My other friend just picked an aftermarket oil tank that is really awesome, holds extra oil, and has cooling tubes running front to back on it. Really sweet but i forget where its from

more info on brakes
they stoped working without any warning, he replaced the pads after that thinking that the caliper posibly had a stop on it. The fluid is full, the caliper piston does not move when the pedal is pushed.
I think he tried to bleed them all ready.
Does anyone know whare to get an aftermarket tank, or how much they are?
thanks

WITTI, my friends 01 Raptor did the same thing. He took it in for warrenty work. They took the piston appart (right by the brake lever) and found nothing wrong with it. They put it back together and it worked like new. He had to pay for that out of his pocket, because there was nothing wrong with it. Come to find out, he came off a jump and landed on the brake lever, causing it actually roll one of the seal out of place. When they took it apart, it rolled back into place and worked just fine. I would sugest taking it apart, carefully, and make sure the seals/o-rings are where they are susposed to be. I don't know about other dealers, but I thought that was wrong. It didn't work going into the shop, but they didn't have to replace any parts, so it wasn't covered under warrenty.
