raptor vrs new 450

I wouldnt be suprised if the 450 did outpower the Raptor. I also wouldnt be suprised if they bumped the Raptor's compression and maybe played with the cam a little to help it one up. Remember tho, a 450 is still smaller than a 660 and the Raptor has some serious hop up potential with it's higher displacement. Anyhow we'll all find out soon enough. I wonder if this 450 is killing off an old quad or just filling a new slot...... I also wonder if this is just one of a few changes awaiting us.....2.5 hours to go.....

I'm guessing that the new quad is replacing the Warrior, or filling yamaha's spot in the 400 range to out smoke the 400EX, KFX 400, Z400, and so forth.
but i seriously doubt that a 450 will out gun one of yamaha's big guns...just my opinion

I know for a fact the new 450 will kill the Raptor and yes it will also kill the DS650. I know this becuase my cousin has a Honda 250r with a YZ400F motor bored and stroked to a 440 and it will put my DS to shame. Very different powerbands though, DS650's and Raptor's have a torquey powerband. The YZF motors have absolutly no torque but all rev.

Considering none of us have rode or raced one....i think we should wait for the official spec's from yamaha, and then argue over it until someone purchases one and races. lol. we can only assume now..

450 - better for woods racing and MX due to lower height, probably longer travel suspension, lighter.
660 - better for dunes, desert, drag racing due to more hop-up potential, more torque
also, I think the 450 will cost as much as or more than the Raptor. I think Yamaha will make this their new high performance King (comparing stock quads, anyway). Why make it second to the Raptor. Then everyone with Raptors will not buy the 450. If the 450 is faster and better handling, then lotsa people with Raptors will want to go out and buy the 450. More sales potential for Yamaha if they make the 450 the new "must have" quad.

i known that this thing will out dated the raptor, new engine,up to date 4 stroke tech, lighter, faster, quicker revving, the big gun from yammy!
those up to date 4 stroke engine are a lot more efficient in power to displacement ratio.

I agree with all of the last three posts. I think yamaha is making a great handling bike with better balance than the raptor and more power thant the z400 and I think it'll be darn hard to beat on the track. If it keeps the weight down like the raptor I wouldn't doubt if it would match up with the predator stock vs stock. Sport quading is just getting better and better and making it harder and harder which quad to buy.
