Its a shame they wont/didnt help. It will be a blight on yamaha for a long time to come as the trannies continue to fail for years to come. I also think if they were going to do anything its too late now. The vin thing has been done to death on forums and has proven all 2001 are succeptable to 2nd gear failures.

The forums arent really a good place to gather data, it turns into too much discussion. If someone made a geocities site to submit the info I would link to it from my site.

From my experience and what I have heard from others the tranny going out usually doesnt cause any extra damage apart from the pieces that would be replaced anyway. It can and has happened though!

Also it could lead to physical harm should you be in a precarious position when it goes. (my 2nd locked tight just 10ft over the top of a good sized hillclimb, had it gone while climbing I may have been hurt)

I really like the newer ratios alot better anyway for what I ride - trails and hillclimbs.
