I just wanted to know if anyone else has come across this problem. Almost every time I put it in neutral, the light doesn't come on. It does work sometimes, but only like 1 out of 4. Does it sound like a loose connection? Where on the trans. does the wire go into?

Will it come on if you rock the machine a little bit forward and back?

My park & 4x4 light does this sometimes.

It will come on if I move the machine, or if I move the shifter around. I know its a minor problem, but it doesn't seem right to me.

I don't know about neutral but in the manual it says the park and 4x4 lights might not come on unless the machine is moved a little. Might be the same for neutral, i don't have my manual handy or i would look it up.

Same thing happens to mine in PARK. If I rock it a little until I hear a little click, then the light comes on.

Boggin I would like to ask you a question, because I noticed you run 27" Blackwaters.I also have these tires and I get so much harshness back thru the handle bars that on long rides it wears my arms out.Is this normal? I really like the tires for traction and ground clearance, but right now I have put my factory tires back on.I'm running about 5 psi to try and help.Is this pressure right? Any help would be appreciated.

Your Neutral light connects to a sensor at the rear of the engine on the left side. Pull the side cover off and look for wires conecting to the engine near the back. One is a reverse and the other a neutral.
I doubt that this is your problem but you never know. Take off your front rack, then the black hood. The screws that hold the hood down just require a half turn out. Do it easy, they like to wander off. Pop off the hood and check your ligh bulbs fit. While you are there have a look to see if any wires are being smashed in the sealing grooves. I had a wire that was.
If the problem is not that easy then your shifter may need adjustment. When you put it into neutral with the engine running and have no light, rev it to make sure you are indeed in neutral, then slowly move the shifter handle forward or back and see if it makes the light come on. If you discover that a certain direction helps, the rod adjustment is just under the left cover. Dont make big adjustments.
I suggest you get a Yamaha Service Manual part # LIT-11616-13-39, @ about $44.00. It has wiring diagrams as well as shifter adjustment procedures.
