Trail Tech Torch Lights - how bout you ?
#1
Back in late Jan this year I purchased the Torch light kit for my Raptor. I am very happy with the fit , finish, and brightness of the lights but am having a constant problem with the bulbs and bulb connections within the light housing. I have yet to complete a weekend of riding without having one bulb or connection fail.
Seems the terminals loosen or the wire breaks. I've tried locktite with limited sucess. Also, the bulb terminals appear to be failing and breaking within the bulb. This is very frustrating. They are mounted properly and securely (no probs there).
Anybody else having these problems ??
Thanks, Eric

my torch lights have worked flawlessly for over a year now and are still going strong. IT sounds like you may have stripped the housing out. try to find a metric thread file and fix it.

Turns out Trail Tech has had many complaints and it boils down to a vibration problem - especially when using an aftermarket pipe. They have re-designed the mounts to include an anti-vibration part. So - if anyone is considering the Torch lights it might be worth waiting for the anti-vibe mounts....

mine have been great for 2 years. my buddy runs too much air pressure in his tires and his lights vibrate apart so he tac welded them up except for the bezel so you can put in new bulbs.

I run my front tire pressure a little high for the dez - helps avoid the sidewall "snakebites" from the rocks. Vibration is definately a huge factor. Unfortunately, I tend to tear sh$t up (like my swingarm) more than usual out in the rough.
I told Trail Tech I'd be happy to test their new mounts for them if I can keep them - IF - they work.

good point Fisher. I mainly ride Glamis or areas that dont pound me (bad back). Has anyone tried their new HID lights with the balast built into the light housing??

Trail Tech is in the process of making some isolated mounts for the Raptor. They said when the new mounts are ready theyll contact me and send me new ones as long as I send the old ones back to them.
That's reasonable customer service - good for them.

I was testing them ( the hids ) for them but I've had problems with them both turning on 100% of the time. One side will light or the other or both. And yes it is wired (soldered) correctly. But I have the Hid lights that mount into the stock housing, which are great, and the Trail Techs just dont add enough to what I have for the $$. I dont think they are powerful enough.
