Help with raptor please
Hey guys. I have a 2000 Kawasaki Mojave which is way to slow for me i finally realized. I used to have a 2001 kx 125 and a kx 80 before that. I have been saving up for a while and im looking around for a quad and i have my sights set on a yamaha raptor. Ever since the first time i saw that quad at a racing track when i had my kx 80 ive been obsessed ever since. Just the look and scowl of the front fenders and the sight of the 660cc engine gets my blood rushin. Can i have your guys opinions on the raptors all out performance, reliability, fun level, handling, power, and all in all how good of a quad it really is. thanks

I own an 02 Raptor and it is a great quad for the trails and dunes. I am a big guy and dont have problems keeping the front down like some smaller riders. It is a bit tippy due to the high cg but I dont find that a problem. Tons of useable torquey power which is a rush. I think you should consider a pipe, filter, rejet as a minimum, it wakes it up considerably from stock trim. I lost a tranny on mine so I am not impressed with reliability. Still, its hard to beat the power on that quad. I would still probably buy it today. If you are thinking of the yamaha 450, I would wait till yammy irons out some of the bugs from a first year machine. The 01 Raptor had a problem 2nd gear in the tranny which they fixed in 02.

I have an 03 Raptor and it is a blast to ride. Has power in all gears. I am 145 lbs so it can pull me very well.LOL... I have a Pro-Tect exhaust, Pro Design Kit & K&N filter. It is so much better. Never had a problem with it. Next is a Skin Industries graphics kit.Good luck and have fun.

I have an 02 Raptor, piped, jetted and alot of goodies, and I love it, tons of torque, fast. Great in the mountains and trails, sand, all around great bike. Like any quad out there it does have a few quirks, center of gravity, one way, 6mm header bolts that do snap with certain aftermarket pipes. I don't think you would be disappointed.
