Raptor vs 450
#1
ok so im sure this topic has probably been covered....i just wanted to get an updated opinion.
i dont understand why the 450 is more expensive than the raptor. its smaller, and i suppose its weaker because it has less displacement.... but im not sure..
so what are the advantages of the 450 vs the raptor.
speed?
power?
suspension?
mods?
ride quality?
thanks guys.

Why talk about whats faster you can have the fastest quad out there and suck on it at the same time!!
but i will try to answer you Qs
Its faster than a stock raptor
the suspension is better cause it is made for mx
it revs much quickerthan any bike out there
but the raptor is more modable and you will get more peak hp
i doubt the power is like a raptor
some people dont like the suspension some people do!
well thats all i know for now

Its not smaller and weaker. Its lighter, better handling, and more powerful. Thats a big difference. It has a lot more technology in it. Its pretty much a full on race machine with an very high performance motor where as a raptor is a big bore cruiser. Displacment dosent always mean more power, it usually just means its easier to get more power out of it.

they are 2 totally different style bikes... why not compare the YFZ to a Kodiak?
test ride them both, get what YOU like
Theupandcoming, do you have a bike?

There is not a lot more technology in the YFZ's engine than in the Raptor's. In fact, the only real difference between the engines is the YFZ is a DOHC versus the Raptor which is a SOHC. All that means is the YFZ has more potential for higher RPM. Unfortunately for the YFZ, when it comes to drag racing(with similarly built engines), that extra camshaft will not make up for the Raptor's additional 50% more displacement.

its the ti valves that let it rev high and fast, that in its self is more advanced

A DOHC is not anymore technologically advanced than a SOHC. They both do the same job. Opening and closing the valves. They just do it a little different. Now if the the YFZ had variable length intake runners or variable valve timing, then it would be more advanced. As for the Nikasil coating or the low piston skirt, none of that matters in a modified engine. Because both engines will be using non stock bores and aftermarket pistons. The Raptor's engine is not a low-tech two valve pushrod engine. It's a high-tech five valve SOHC engine.

I'll just quote Jackalwarrior, displacement does not alway mean more power. Just look at cars nowadays four cylinders can kick the crap out of some v-8's and mod for mod the four cyliner or more likely a six cylinder can easily keep up with most of the big v-8's. It's the same with quads. The yfz might be (and I said might) be closer to being maxed out than a raptor, although I've heard you can get over 60hp out of the yfz. There's just no way a raptor will ever handle like the yfz. You'd just have to get a whole new chassis and set the engine a little lower and get new suspension. I like the raptor and right now I LOVE the yfz but I haven't rode the yfz myself yet, just going on heresay and research.
