I am trying to switch to a different carb myself. As soon as I can get my shocks sold I am going to switch.

My friend machined some spacers from aluminum, they are the same ID as the ports, and bolt on right inbeween the intake manifolds and the head, just use longer ports. They sure seem to work good, and they look factory, too

Generally you will lose a little throttle response and gain top end. I would think 36mm would be plenty big if their not vacuum slide carbs, you'd be losing the butterflies.
