Default Glowing Pipe on YFZ

Last night I noticed the pipe on my week old YFZ glowing red, the dealership says this is normal but, from my experience with race motors this is a sign of improper jetting. Also the motor on this thing gets extremely hot.

Yes, I would check the jetting. I had a friends 400ex do that and he kept riding it and blew the headgasket.

Most people I know that have aftermarket stainless headers report the pipe glowing red at night. The YFZ450 has a stainless header. My Raptor with Yosh header does it & you can jet it so rich that it won't even run & it will still glow to some extent. I wouldn't worry about it especially if its under warranty & the dealer says not to worry. JMO.

All of the YZF dirtbikes head pipes I see glow at an idle.

Do a plug check just in case.

Thanks, I guess I need not to worry. I just didn't want to mess up anything.

But from my experience blowing headgaskets is also normal for a 400ex.

I have seen several YFZ owners in this forum speaking of glowing headers and each says their dealership claims the phenomenon to be normal. I would just check your jetting and your valves. If they are in specs, ride it like you stole it.

I got an the first hour in on my Y 450 last night. The exhaust header was warm but did not glow.. noticed the heat on my leg without motox boots on.

Also has anyone pulled the tank yet to get to the plug for a plug check?
